The Buyer Planner is responsible for planning all material requirements and for the purchase of products in accordance with established company policies and procedures. They are responsible for the timely delivery of product that is required to support the production plan. They establish and maintain good company/vendor relationships. The Buyer Planner manages levels of finished, work-in-process and raw inventory in accordance with company and department goals and objectives.
Measures of success:
- Achieve inventory turnover target range as established by the company
- Minimize slow moving and obsolete inventory
- Reduce costs by successfully obtaining optimal pricing through strategic sourcing
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Plans all material requirements including manufactured and purchased items predicated on sales and replacement parts (RP) forecasts, customer orders and predetermined acceptable finished goods inventory levels.
- Responsible for scheduling work in the Production, Shipping and Receiving Departments, including review of Buyer Workbench / Purchase Order (PO) suggestions and creating POs as needed.
- Purchases products in accordance with established company policies and procedures, including seeking bids, screening potential vendors, and submitting specifications to ensure lowest possible price and highest quality.
- Ensures the timely delivery of product as required to support the current production plan. Arranges delivery and mode of transportation in accordance with schedule requirements.
- Develops and monitors purchase orders with vendors based on material requirements planning (MRP) and negotiated terms.
- Works with customs broker and company import/export specialist on international imports to ensure proper classification of materials and with vendors to ensure proper markings. Maintains compliance with all import rules and regulations.
- Develops and implements corrective action required to address late shipments, short shipments, etc.
- Assists in the resolution of rejected material, in-house and vendor supplied, as well as clearing receipts through incoming inspection.
- Advises management of all price increases and reductions. Assists Operations Manager with all vendor price negotiations as required.
- Maintains professional working relationship with suppliers. Establishes and maintains good company/vendor/subcontractor relationships and encourages new methods of production to foster cost reductions. Ensures that buyer/vendor relationship does not create a conflict of interest.
- Issues manufacturing orders to production departments to support forecast and actual schedule requirements.
- Responsible for continual review/follow-up of on-order materials and in-process orders to ensure adherence to schedule and prevent shortages.
- Responsible for continual review/follow-up of in-process manufacturing work orders to ensure adherence to established schedules. Expedites operations that delay schedules and alters schedules to meet unforeseen conditions. Advises department supervisors of changing priorities.
- Advises sales department of any extensions of estimated completion dates.
- Manages levels of finished, work-in-process and raw inventory in accordance with established company and departmental goals and objectives. Completes inventory adjustments, miscellaneous issues, and receipts.
- Maintains the MRP database relative to item creation, lead times, minimum, maximum and multiple order quantities, price break quantities, analysts, and product line codes, etc., for each assigned product line.
- Enters accurate costing for purchased parts and performs cost roll process for manufactured parts. Performs annual review of standard costing for all Taco Canada (TCA) items and updates as required.
- Performs job completion/closing maintenance in accordance with procedures supplied by the finance department.
- Maintains supplier pricelist database in Epicor ERP system, including maintenance of supplier part numbers, updating pricing and mass updates upon receipt of price increases.
- Forecasts key residential items on a monthly basis and maintains active list of critical stock keeping units (SKUs). Reviews/analyzes sales history to determine appropriate minimum/maximum levels and places forecast purchase orders. Meets with residential sales manager to review trends and provides priority item list to Taco Cranston team.
- Conducts monthly TCA Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) meetings to resolve/review ongoing issues.
- Participates in weekly meetings with finance to resolve/review invoicing discrepancies.
- Provides monthly inventory graphs with analysis, including past due purchase orders, sales order backlog, cost of poor quality, and weekly Taco Fall River purchase orders created for Canadian Registration Number (CRN) purposes.
- Performs other duties as requested by supervisor.
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics and Materials, Supply Chain or Operations and Supply Management
- 3+ years of experience as a Buyer Planner, coordinating purchases and deliveries with local and foreign vendors, establishing alternate supply sources, negotiating price, quality and delivery terms, determining production requirements and applications, planning material requirements and forecasting and maintaining onsite inventory levels
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel
- Experience with MRP, just-in-time (JIT), and lean manufacturing practices
- Experience working directly with freight forwarder, import broker, customs compliance officers, and foreign suppliers to import varying material while complying with US Customs regulations
- Exceptional project management and organizational skills
- Effective communication skills, including excellent oral and written skills
- General understanding of inventory transactions in a manufacturing environment and the how those transactions impact the company on a financial basis
- Analytical ability to investigate how inventory transactions are processed and determine whether the transactions were processed in the proper manner
This position works primarily in an office environment using computers and technology. Verbal and auditory capability are required. Occasional exposure in production plant where large equipment and noise are prevalent. Safety gear is required in these areas.
This position reports into the site every day.
This position has no direct reports.
Full Compensation packages are based on candidate experience and certifications.
