Job summary

Aker Solutions in St. John's, NL is seeking a Buyer to support our Supply Chain Management group on engineering, construction, or industrial projects.

You will secure materials, liaise with suppliers, prepare purchase orders, analyze bids, and ensure on-time delivery with proper documentation. We value 5–10 years of progressive buying experience, knowledge of purchasing principles, and a post-secondary degree in Business Administration or related field.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years progressive experience as a Buyer or Purchasing professional.
• Knowledge of purchasing principles, sourcing strategies and supplier management.
• Post-secondary degree in Business Admin, SCM, Commerce or related field.
• PMAC/SCMP designation is an asset.
• Strong analytical, negotiation and communication skills with multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

• Secure materials and equipment aligned with project scope and client specs.
• Coordinate clarifications between supplier, client and corporate teams.
• Prepare purchase orders, evaluate bids and make recommendations.
• Obtain complete item descriptions and ensure proper requisition approvals.
• Obtain quotes and manage supplier responses and pricing.
• Assess project scope changes and communicate impacts.
• Advise leads on procurement factors affecting goods and services.
• Mentor junior buyers to ensure compliance and build supplier relationships.
• Engage client representatives for approvals and budgets.
• Participate in work-hour estimates for costing.

Our team in St. John's, NL is growing and we're seeking a Buyer to support our Supply Chain Management group!

What will you be doing?

• Secure materials and equipment prior to execution of work scope with continued focus on HSEQ and client specifications;
• Liaise technical clarifications and amendments between supplier and corporate / client teams;
• Expedite material and equipment to ensure on time delivery with attentions to receipt and approval of specified documentation;
• Preparing purchase ordering, analyzing and evaluating bids, and making recommendations;
• Obtaining complete descriptions of items required and ensuring purchase requisitions are properly authorized;
• Obtaining competitive quotations, prices, or tenders from potential suppliers;
• Make recommendations related to project scope changes and gain an understanding of the impact on other projects;
• Advise Materials/Procurement Lead on factors that potentially affect the acquisition of required goods and services.
• Mentor junior and intermediate buyers to assure compliance with client and corporate policies, regulations and specifications and the building of relationships with suppliers and other disciplines.
• Communicate with client representatives to secure technical and budgetary approvals;
• Participate in work hour estimates for costing of work scope to client;

We think you should have:

• 5 to 10 years of progressive experience in a Buyer or Purchasing role, preferably supporting engineering, construction, or industrial projects.
• Knowledge of purchasing principles, sourcing strategies, contract administration, and supplier relationship management.
• Post-secondary degree or diploma in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Commerce, or a related discipline. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
• Professional procurement designation or certification, such as the Procurement Management Association of Canada (PMAC)/Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP), is considered an asset.
• Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
