We currently have an exciting opportunity as a Buyer, Direct Materials - 6 Month Contract. This role is based in our head office in Oakville and reports to the Purchasing Team Lead.

Job Summary

This role primarily involves Bill Of Material (BOM) coverage for our manufacturing facilities, with some buy-sell responsibilities.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Manage and optimize inventory for manufacturing sites to ensure timely delivery and cost efficiency, following inventory management best practices.
  • Initiate and implement replenishment programs for BOM items, focusing on automation and process optimization (e.g., VMI, Kanban).
  • Monitor and analyze inventory trends to set parameters like minimum, maximum, EOQ, and reorder points.
  • Manage supplier relationships to maximize value and support sourcing initiatives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align supply chain activities with business goals and improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
  • Report and analyze weekly/monthly KPIs, explaining variances.
  • Maintain accurate master data in our ERP system, as assigned by the Purchasing Manager.
  • Release purchase orders based on validated MRP recommendations, considering budgets and demand forecasts.
  • Monitor requisition systems, analyze requirements, and create purchase orders for direct items.
  • Identify opportunities for KANBAN implementation and execute as needed.
  • Manage inventory levels through KANBAN/Min-Max systems to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Work with Strategic Sourcing on sourcing activities, contracts, and vendor management.
  • Ensure on-time delivery of purchase orders through open order management tools.
  • Manage product complaints and resolutions via the Quality SCAR process.
  • Support new product implementation using a Stage Gate process led by Innovation.
  • Prepare, analyze, and maintain purchasing and inventory management reports.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Post-secondary education in Supply Chain, Business, or related field preferred.
  • Certifications such as APICS, CPIM, CSCP, SCMAO are assets.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in Inventory Management, Purchasing, or related fields in manufacturing.
  • Deep knowledge of Kanban, VMI, and plant operations.
  • Strong supply chain experience with vendor management and strategic planning.
  • Experience with SAP & PowerBI is a plus.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and Macros.
