Position Overview
The Business Intelligence Analyst at Stella-Jones will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining SAP Datasphere & SAP HANA Deployment Infrastructure (HDI) database artifacts and Power BI Reports that support data-driven decision-making and drive business growth. This position offers an excellent career opportunity for someone with a strong background in SAP Datasphere, Hana, and/or Power BI, and a passion for leveraging technology to create innovative solutions.
This role will be hybrid (typically 2 to 3 days a week in office) based at our corporate HQ in Montreal (Saint-Laurent).
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and understand business requirements, translating them into functional and technical specifications for SAP Datasphere, HDI solutions, and Power BI.
- Design, develop, and maintain SAP Hana Native Objects such as calculation views and SQL Scripts.
- Design, develop, and maintain SAP Datasphere objects, including SAP BW Bridge Objects, Analytic Models, Views, Consumption Models, and Perspectives.
- Design, develop, and maintain BI reports and dashboards, including DAX development, Power Query, data modeling, and visualizations in Power BI.
- Extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from various SAP and non-SAP sources using SAP data extraction methods such as LO Extractors, Generic Extractors, ABAP routines, and CDS Views.
- Optimize data warehouse performance by monitoring data loads, query performance, and system resources, implementing tuning measures when necessary.
- Optimize Power BI Reports performance by monitoring data loads and DAX/M queries, applying tuning measures as needed.
- Integrate SAP BW/DW Cloud with other SAP components like SAP Analytics Cloud, HANA, or BPC for comprehensive reporting and analytics.
- Ensure data quality and integrity through robust validation, archiving, and error handling processes.
- Provide end-user support, training, and documentation.
- Collaborate with SAP team members such as functional consultants, data architects, and ABAP developers for seamless SAP landscape integration.
- Continuously improve BI solutions by staying current with industry trends, evaluating new tools, and recommending enhancements.
Qualifications
- Three or more years of experience in SAP BW/Hana development, focusing on data modeling, ETL, performance optimization, reporting, and dashboards.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related; Master’s preferred.
- Understanding of data warehouse concepts like star schema, snowflake schema, and data modeling.
- Proficient in SAP BW 7.x, SAP HANA native objects, BW/4HANA, or SAP Datasphere experience is a plus.
- Proficient in Power BI, DAX, data modeling, and visualization techniques.
- Solid knowledge of SAP data extraction methods, CDS views, ABAP, and SAP integration technologies such as SAP Analytics Cloud or BPC.
- Experience with programming languages like Python or R is a plus.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Expertise in navigating SAP systems for data extraction and validation, including querying and analyzing SAP data (e.g., SE16N, CDS views).
- Proficiency in SQL query techniques, including complex queries, joins, subqueries, and performance optimization in SAP environments.
- English required; French is a plus.
