Leveraging your existing industry relationships while actively developing new connections, you will identify new business opportunities, build strategic client relationships, and help convert those relationships into successful projects.

We are looking for an experienced, goal-oriented business development professional with a strong network in the Ontario construction and real estate industry. You will be responsible for developing a robust pipeline of qualified opportunities, strengthening Scott’s position with priority clients and market sectors, and working collaboratively with our operational and proposal teams to develop winning pursuit strategies.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Leverage existing relationships and proactively develop new ones to generate qualified project opportunities, gain early visibility into upcoming work and position Scott to successfully secure new projects.
  • Identify upcoming projects and opportunities early, building relationships and gathering market intelligence before projects formally enter the procurement process.
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key potential clients, consultants, project managers and other industry influencers and partners.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the Ontario construction and real estate marketplace, including emerging opportunities, industry trends, competitor activity and changing client priorities.
  • Represent Scott Construction at industry events, conferences and networking opportunities to strengthen brand awareness, develop market intelligence and create new business relationships.

  • Lead the development and execution of Scott’s Ontario strategic plan and identify initiatives that support regional growth objectives.
  • Evaluate potential project opportunities, review procurement requirements, lead Go/No-Go discussions and use market and client intelligence to advise the team on pursuit decisions.
  • Develop a strong understanding of clients’ goals, needs, concerns and project drivers, and clearly communicate this intelligence to internal stakeholders to support the development of effective pursuit and bid-to-win strategies.
  • Support RFQ/RFP and tender pursuits by providing client and competitive intelligence, contributing to pursuit strategy, participating in proposal development and providing detailed reviews and feedback throughout the submission process.
  • Maintain accurate and current information on prospective clients, relationships, opportunities and RFQ/RFP pursuits within the Client Relationship Management (CRM) system.
  • Lead bi-weekly Business Development meetings, providing the management team with clear visibility into the Ontario pipeline, developing leads, active pursuits, key client activity and upcoming opportunities.
  • Monitor the health and quality of the business development pipeline and proactively identify gaps, risks and opportunities requiring action.

  • Demonstrated track record of personally originating, developing and converting new business opportunities into awarded construction projects.
  • Established network within the Ontario construction, real estate and development community.
  • Strong relationships within Scott’s key growth sectors, particularly private-sector multi-family residential, commercial office and hospitality. Relationships within public-sector post-secondary and municipal markets would be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop new relationships from initial prospecting and introductions through to established client relationships and project opportunities.
  • Strong understanding of construction procurement methods and the RFQ/RFP/tender pursuit process.
