Job description

MarineLabs, based in Victoria, BC, Canada, is a fast-growing Coastal Intelligence company delivering real-time and predictive weather, camera data, and actionable intelligence through our rugged fleet of rapid-deploy sensor nodes. Our data and predictive tools help ports, pilots, and maritime operators improve safety and efficiency on a subscription model built for scale. We’re now at an inflection point that requires dedicated focus on rapid, sustainable growth.

We are at a key growth inflection point and expanding our footprint across key regional and international markets. We are seeking an action-oriented, strategic, and relationship-driven Business Development Director to accelerate growth across Eastern Canada (Quebec, Ontario/Great Lakes, Atlantic Canada) and lay the groundwork for expansion into UK/European markets.

What You’ll Do
  • Drive Net-New Revenue: Identify, target, and close enterprise-level business development opportunities across ports, terminals, ferry systems, pilot associations, and coastal infrastructure organizations.
  • Manage Enterprise Sales Cycles: Lead full-cycle B2B technical sales processes - from account mapping and initial outreach to ROI modeling, commercial quote generation, contract negotiation, and closing.
  • Navigate Complex Stakeholders: Build lasting, trust-based relationships with senior operational decision-makers, harbour masters, port authorities, and C-suite leadership.
  • Lead Technical Demos & Engineering Pitching: Serve as a technical sales advocate by confidently running product demonstrations, interpreting oceanographic data products, and presenting custom value/ROI frameworks to customers.
  • Account Transition & Growth: Onboard and manage ~6 key existing regional accounts over a structured 3–6 month handover period while maintaining a strong focus on net-new "hunting".
  • Territory & Industry Presence: Represent MarineLabs at key industry trade shows, conferences, and on-site customer visits (requiring 25%–50% domestic and international travel).
What You Bring
Must-Haves:
  • 10+ Years in Enterprise BD/Sales: A proven track record of opening new markets, building trust with executive buyers, and closing net-new B2B deals.
  • Enterprise Tech / Data Solutions Experience: Demonstrated experience selling technical software, hardware-enabled data solutions, or complex B2B technology platforms.
  • Strong Technical & Sales Engineering Aptitude: Comfortable working with customer data, constructing ROI arguments, and running technical product demonstrations during the sales process.
  • Proactive "Hunter" Mindset: Exceptional self-drive, curiosity, and high initiative to open doors and build pipeline from scratch in target territories.
  • Location & Mobility: Based in Eastern Canada (or working Eastern Time Zone alignment) with the ability to travel 25%–50% across target regions, as well as occasional visits to the U.S., Europe, or HQ in Victoria, BC.
Nice-to-Have:
  • Direct industry background in maritime operations, shipping, marine transportation, ocean technology, or coastal infrastructure.
  • Educational background or practical experience in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Practical familiarity with maritime operational pain points, safety regulations, and weather-related downtime challenges.
Why MarineLabs
  • Competitive Compensation Package: Base salary plus performance-based commission structured on a clear 60/40 OTE split.
  • Equity Participation: Ownership opportunities in a rapidly scaling ocean technology company.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Extended health, medical, and wellness coverage starting day one.
  • High Impact: Join a mission-driven team reshaping global ocean safety and coastal resilience through patented, cutting-edge technology.

This is an opportunity to help reshape coastal decision-making with our patented technology as an integral partner in enhancing the value of the company. Even if your experience doesn't precisely match the job description, we encourage applicants of all backgrounds and identities to apply.
