POSITION PURPOSE: The Business Development Director is responsible for driving revenue growth with new customers and expanding American Expediting’s client base. This individual will develop and execute strategies to identify new opportunities and lead initiatives that align with the company’s growth objectives.
REPORTS TO: Vice President of Sales
Responsibilities
- Sales Strategy & Analysis:
Develop and implement a strategic sales plan to expand American Expediting’s market presence and drive revenue growth with new customers.
Analyze market trends, competitive landscape, and customer needs to inform business strategies and identify areas for growth.
Track and report sales performance metrics, providing regular updates to senior leadership. - New Business Development:
Identify and pursue new business opportunities, including lead generation, prospecting, and closing high-value deals.
Negotiate contracts and pricing agreements, ensuring favorable terms for both the company and its clients. - Relationship Management & Collaboration:
Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key clients, ensuring customer satisfaction and long-term partnerships.
Represent American Expediting at industry conferences, networking events, and client meetings to build brand awareness and establish credibility.
Collaborate with internal teams, including operations, marketing, and account management, to ensure seamless service delivery and client retention. - Market & Solutions Knowledge:
Stay informed about industry trends, competitor activities, and market conditions.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of American Expediting’s services and capabilities.
Educate potential and existing customers on the value of our logistics solutions.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred
- 5+ years of sales experience, with strong experience in B2B or transportation/logistics, life science industry experience preferred
- Prior courier experience preferred
- Ability to travel as needed up to 50% of the time
- Bilingual French/English strongly preferred
Preferred Experience
- Prior experience selling on the value of a product or service to meet the needs of a customer, from cold call through close
- A track record of performing in a variable pay role with a considerable portion of compensation tied to achievement of defined sales objectives
- Driving success in business with a clear and intentional customer or territory strategy
- Successful history of building strong customer relationships
- Demonstrated history of being able to generate new business independently and create a sales pipeline.
- Comfortable with being held accountable to a quota ($2.5M+)
- A clear sales strategy and being able to demonstrate quantified value
- Prefers new business development vs account management
