Job summary

Business Analyst, IT

Position Summary

Located in Mississauga and reporting to the Manager, Transportation Systems, the Business Analyst will work closely with the IT Project Manager on a large and small projects. The individual will have ownership over the quality of the delierables by crafting the framework for gathering/defining needs, analysing gaps, improving processes, architecting and designing the solution, guiding testing, and implementation. They will also mentor a team of Application Analysts in gathering requirements, testing and implementing. We are looking for someone who has done this before, enjoyed it, and wants to do it again. The individual needs to possess a strong set of best practices and also have the maturity to customize those practices with our local environment/considerations to be successful. Scope

• Weekend and afterhours work could be required based on type of project activity or phase.
• Some travel may be required depending on the scope of the project.

What you’ll do

Business Analysis

• Maintain overall responsibility for the quality of the project’s deliverable.
• Build and formalize the framework for gathering requirements for large projects that can enable other Analysts to gather relevant high quality input.
• Display the ability to use Business Analysis techniques and templates, and showcase maturity in scaling the rigor of said techniques up or down as suitable to the magnitude of the project.
• Use process mapping skills to clearly document current and target business processes.
• Elicit and document requirements for system and process changes through interviews, discussions and review of systems or documentation.
• Conduct requirements analysis, system analysis and impact analysis on gathered requirements to generate system requirements and ultimately system design.
• Mentor Application Analysts to collaborate with business stakeholders to understand and analyze operational requirements.
• May coach or assist with preparing training documentation/SOPs and train both users and other trainers on system use.
• Collaborate with QA teams to define and execute testing strategies for the TMS application

Architecture, Subject Matter Expertise & Solution Design

• Maintain overall responsibility for architecture and solution design of the TMS implementation.
• Be a subject matter expert for the transportation applications. Understand the current functionality, keep up with future enhancements on the product roadmap, and assess capabilities in competing applications within the same domain.
• Review incoming IT Work Requests to understand the need, translate the business needs into technical requirements, and provide feedback into the project’s Solution/Design phases.
• Identify key functionalities and features required to optimize Transportation operations
• Work closely with the TMS providers and other internal stakeholders to define the best suited architecture for the Transportation Management System and other transportation applications.
• Guide and take ownership of the required customizations and configurations of transportation Application solutions to meet specific business needs.
• Influence integration strategies for seamless connectivity with other enterprise systems (Accounting, TMS, Shipping, Yard Management, Visibility, etc.).

Relationship Management

• Build strong business relationships with key stakeholders to ensure project success through management of expectations and influence.

What you’ll bring

Must have

• Sound Analytical skills developed over 5+ years working as a Business Analyst or comparable role.
• Proven experience working in roles focusing on transportation and 3PL technology systems.
• In-depth knowledge of various TMS applications along with best practices surrounding architecture, design, implementation, integration and customization.
• Experience working within the 3pl environment, along with a good understanding of the revenue and expense mechanics associated with them.
• Keen self-starter who is interested to learn new technologies and enjoys leading change.
• Comfortable wearing multiple hats and working in a very team oriented environment.
• Good understanding of databases with proficiency in managing configuration changes via SQL.
• Problem-solving mindset with the ability to analyze complex business requirements.
• Active person who shows initiative and is motivated by the next challenge.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (written, verbal and presentation).
• Technically competent with the Microsoft Office suite of products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Project.
• Experience using Wrike, ManageEngine or other work management tools

Nice to haves

• Completion of a post-secondary degree in an analytical specialization (Engineering, Sciences or Business with IT concentration preferred) or equivalent practical experience.
• Logistics industry certifications
