Job summary

The BC General Employees' Union (BCGEU) is seeking a Business Analyst (AR4) for its Development and Records Department for a one-year term. The role is hands-on, owning business analysis across the iterative software lifecycle and improving business processes.

The successful candidate will lead elicitation sessions, manage Jira backlogs, refine requirements, define acceptance criteria with QA, and coordinate with stakeholders and vendors for integrated solutions.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience independently working with a software development team as their business analyst and/or product owner in an agile environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a Jira backlog and running agile ceremonies with minimal oversight.
  • Experience planning and managing software releases spanning multiple components or products.
  • Demonstrated history of proficiency in project and risk management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to present material to stakeholders.
  • A university degree in computer science or other related discipline with an IT focus, or equivalent experience.

  • Assist with software support escalations and investigations as required.

Job Title: Business Analyst

Duration: Temporary one year term

Job Summary:

The B.C. General Employees' Union (BCGEU) is one of the largest and most diverse unions in British Columbia representing over 90,000 members in 550 bargaining units in the private sector and public services.

The BCGEU requires a Business Analyst to work with the union's Development team in the Development & Records department for a one year term, with possible extension. This is a hands‑on role requiring someone who can take ownership of business analysis activities immediately after onboarding and learning about BCGEU's organization. The role involves eliciting, documenting, and managing requirements throughout the entire iterative software development lifecycle, including software developed in-house and delivered through third‑party vendors. In addition to the software component, this role involves analysis and management of business process improvements.

The BCGEU has several modernization and transformation initiatives in the works, so the ability to independently organize and prioritize the development team's work is of critical importance to this role.

This position reports to the Director, Development & Records, and is ultimately accountable to the Executive Director, Technology Services.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Business Analyst, you will work directly with the union's Development team. This is a hybrid position and is not eligible for fully remote work arrangements in the short term.

The successful applicant will:

  • Independently lead requirements elicitation sessions with union members and other internal stakeholders
  • Analyze requirements, data, business processes, and other artifacts, and report findings to management and other stakeholders

Education and Experience:

  • Demonstrated history of proficiency in project and risk management

Preference may be given to candidates with:

  • Experience working with AI tools
  • Experience with mobile application development projects
  • Experience with modernization or system integration projects, including third‑party vendor coordination
  • Intermediate experience with SQL or relational databases
  • Experience working as a scrum master or scrum coach
  • Knowledge of the labour movement, and/or labour movement experience

SALARY RANGE:

Annually: $100,601.91 - $141,688.64

Please note that temporary and probationary employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements.

This is a unionized position, and all terms of employment are governed by the applicable collective agreement.

The BCGEU does not reimburse moving expenses for successful candidates living outside of the greater Vancouver region.

Travel is required; therefore, applicants must hold a valid B.C. Driver's Licence.
