Job description

Work Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Hours: 37.5

Line of Business: Technology Solutions

Pay Details: $96,900 - $136,800 CAD

TD is committed to providing fair and equitable compensation opportunities to all colleagues. Growth opportunities and skill development are defining features of the colleague experience at TD. Our compensation policies and practices have been designed to allow colleagues to progress through the salary range over time as they progress in their role. The base pay actually offered may vary based upon the candidate's skills and experience, job-related knowledge, geographic location, and other specific business and organizational needs. As a candidate, you are encouraged to ask compensation related questions and have an open dialogue with your recruiter who can provide you more specific details for this role.

Role Overview

The Business Systems Analysis Specialist is a senior technology professional responsible for translating complex business needs into clear, actionable technical requirements and solution specifications. The role works closely with Product Owners, Software Engineers, Architects, Quality Engineers and business stakeholders throughout the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). The successful candidate must be comfortable working with modern distributed applications involving APIs, batch processing, microservices and databases, and be able to understand how changes impact systems and data across an end-to-end solution. At the L10 level, the individual is expected to work independently on complex initiatives, provide subject-matter expertise, identify solution gaps and risks, and influence solution decisions. This aligns with the document's expectation for L10 professionals to have expert knowledge of the technology environment and act as SMEs across research, analysis, design and solution/support activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Business & Systems Analysis: Analyze complex business needs and translate them into functional and technical requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria and system specifications.
  • Perform end-to-end impact analysis across applications, APIs, microservices, batches, databases and integration points.
  • Understand existing system behaviour and data flows, identify gaps, dependencies and technology impacts, and work with engineering teams to define appropriate solutions.
  • Partner with Architects and Engineers to ensure requirements align with solution architecture, security, performance and operational expectations.
  • Review requirements and technical deliverables throughout the lifecycle to identify gaps or areas requiring redesign.
Technical Analysis
  • REST APIs and service integrations, including endpoints, requests/responses, payloads, errors and dependencies.
  • Batch processing, including inputs/outputs, schedules, dependencies, data transformations and failure scenarios.
  • Microservices architectures and interactions between distributed services.
  • Databases and data models, including tables, relationships, queries, data mapping and data flows.
  • End-to-end system dependencies and the impact of changes across applications and releases.

The role is not primarily a software development position, but the candidate must be technically strong enough to work directly with engineering and architecture teams and challenge or clarify technical requirements when necessary.

Agile Delivery & SDLC
  • Strong practical knowledge of Agile Scrum Kanban Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Comfortable working with Product Owners and engineering teams to refine backlog items, break business capabilities into implementable requirements, define acceptance criteria, identify dependencies and support delivery through development, testing, release and production readiness.

The source framework specifically emphasizes collaboration, requirements validation, user stories, acceptance criteria, definitions of ready/done, delivery standards and continuous improvement.

AI-Enabled SDLC
  • Using AI-assisted development and analysis tools responsibly to accelerate requirements analysis, documentation and solution understanding.
  • Creating requirements that are clear, structured and machine-readable where appropriate.
  • Writing and maintaining Markdown (.md) documentation used by engineering teams and AI-assisted workflows.
  • Structuring functional requirements, technical context, acceptance criteria, business rules and system behaviour so they can be effectively consumed by both engineering teams and AI-enabled tooling.
  • Reviewing AI-generated outputs for accuracy, completeness and alignment with business and technology requirements.
Required Qualifications
  • 7+ years of relevant technology / systems analysis experience, consistent with the L10 experience level defined in the source framework.
  • Strong experience translating complex business requirements into technical and functional specifications.
  • Strong understanding of APIs, batch processing, microservices and relational databases.
  • Experience analyzing end-to-end integrations and data flows across multiple applications.
  • Strong hands‑on knowledge of Agile, Scrum and Kanban delivery models.
  • Strong understanding of the complete SDLC, from requirements and design through development, testing, deployment and production support.
  • Ability to write clear technical documentation, including Markdown (.md) files.
  • Experience or demonstrated ability to operate effectively within an AI-enabled SDLC.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently on complex initiatives while collaborating effectively with business and technology stakeholders.
