Job summary

PCL Constructors Canada Inc. is seeking a Building Systems Student for the Toronto District in our Canadian Buildings Division. The position offers a 4‑month or 8‑month term starting January 2027, with exposure to electrical and mechanical coordination on active projects.

You will review contract docs, set up project documentation, produce logs for submittals, and help develop installation schedules while participating in quality control and close-out activities.

Qualifications

• Desire to work in a construction environment and prior field construction experience will be considered an asset.
• Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets and drafting software.

Responsibilities

• Review contract documentation including architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical drawings and specs.
• Review for delays or interferences prior to project start‑up.
• Set up a documentation and communication system with the Project Manager or Superintendent.
• Produce and maintain a shop drawing log for electrical equipment or material submittals.
• Pursue applicable trades for timely submissions or resubmissions.
• Assist in reviewing shop drawings prior to consultants.
• Solicit input from electrical and mechanical subtrades for scheduling.
• Develop and maintain installation schedules.
• Perform quality control inspections with consultant and Building Systems Coordinator/Manager.
• Assist in establishing construction plans and temporary services layout.
• Assist team with temporary services procurement.
• Review specs and drawings to ensure material, equipment and field activities meet requirements.
• Assist in project close-out activities including commissioning and manuals.

We are seeking aBuilding Systems Student, for ourToronto District, within our Canadian Buildings Division that is available for4 month or 8 months starting January 2027.

As aBuilding Systems Studentand depending on your assigned project, you will have the opportunity to contribute to our team by:

Responsibilities

• Reviewing all contract documentation including architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical drawings and specifications.
• Reviewing for possible delays or interferences prior to the initial start-up of the project.
• Setting up a documentation and communication system with the Project Manager or Project Superintendent depending on the size of project.
• Producing and maintaining a shop drawing log for all electrical equipment or material submittals and/or samples.
• Pursuing applicable trades for timely submission or re-submissions.
• Assisting in reviewing and providing comments on shop drawings prior to submitting to the consultants.
• Soliciting input from the all the electrical and mechanical subtrades including equipment and material delivery dates for input into the schedule.
• Developing and maintaining installation schedules.
• Performing quality control inspections with the consultant and Building Systems Coordinator/Manager.
• Assisting project staff in establishing the construction plan and temporary services layout.
• Assisting the team with temporary services procurement.
• Reviewing all specifications, drawings, etc. to ensure technical and code requirements for material, equipment and field activities are met.
• Assisting in all facets of project close-out, including commissioning, operation and maintenance manuals, spare part inventory deficiencies, etc.

Qualifications

• A strong desire to work in a construction environment and prior field construction experience will be considered an asset.
• Application of various computer software programs will be required, including word processing, spreadsheet applications and drafting

The estimated hourly range for this role is $21.37- $31.33, based on your experience and qualifications. Final compensation will be confirmed as part of a personalized offer.
