Job summary

The District of Saanich is seeking a Building Service Worker II - Arena to join the Recreation Division at G.R. Pearkes Recreation Centre. This role performs maintenance work in ice arenas and related buildings to keep spaces safe, clean and ready for programs and public use.

Under supervision, you will setup, clean, and take down for programs, perform custodial duties, operate ice-making equipment and handle general facility maintenance. Full-time hours include evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• Requirements include Grade 11 or equivalent, Refrigerator Operator certification, 3–6 months of related experience, WHMIS certification valid within 1 year, Occupational First Aid Level 1 as required, and a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence.

Responsibilities

• Set up, clean up and take down for programs and events.
• Perform custodial and floor care duties; clean washrooms and replenish supplies.
• Operate and service ice-making and ice-resurfacing equipment; maintain ice surfaces.
• Perform building and equipment maintenance related to heating, air conditioning, compressors, plumbing, painting and carpentry.
• Maintain equipment operation records and assist with training seasonal staff.

1 Permanent Full-Time (CUPE Local 2011) Position

Parks, Recreation and Community Services is seeking a qualified and reliable Building Service Worker II - Arena to join the Recreation Division at G.R. Pearkes Recreation Centre. This position performs maintenance work in the general operation and service maintenance of ice arenas and associated buildings and equipment in municipal recreation facilities. The successful candidate will help maintain safe, clean, and well-prepared recreation spaces that support programs, activities, events, and public use.

Under the direction of the Technical and Building Services Supervisor, the Building Service Worker II - Arena performs set-up, clean-up, and take-down tasks for programs and special requirements; completes custodial and floor care duties; cleans washrooms and replenishes supplies; operates and services ice-making and ice-resurfacing equipment; maintains ice surfaces and associated areas; performs building and equipment maintenance related to heating systems, air conditioning systems, compressors, plumbing fixtures, painting, and carpentry; maintains equipment operation records; and assists with training seasonal and auxiliary employees.

Requirements include Grade 11 or equivalent, Refrigerator Operator certification, over three months and up to six months of related experience, WHMIS certification valid within one year, Occupational First Aid Level 1 as required, and a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence. Employment is subject to provision of a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS) check no older than six months. Renewal of PIC-VS is required as per policy. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The successful candidate will work full-time, 35 hours per week, with varying hours of work including evenings and weekends. Hours and shifts are subject to change. Although we thank all applicants for applying, only those under consideration will be contacted.
