Job summary

The YMCA of Brandon is seeking a Building Operator to join our Maintenance & Cleaning team. This full-time role operates on a 4 on/4 off schedule with rotation and some holidays, requiring hands-on maintenance of the Dood Cristall Family YMCA facility and its equipment.

You will perform preventative maintenance, oversee repairs to HVAC, plumbing, electrical and general facility systems, and ensure a safe, clean environment for members and staff.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in facilities maintenance, with a focus on preventative maintenance and repairs.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting and HVAC systems.
  • Pool operation knowledge or license is required (will train).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities in a high-traffic environment and work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Preventative Maintenance: Ensure compliance with maintenance standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Repairs and Troubleshooting: Inspect and address maintenance needs; oversee HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general upkeep repairs.
  • Safety Compliance: Enforce safety procedures and conduct audits; ensure activities meet health and safety regulations.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain stock of maintenance supplies and equipment.
  • Collaboration: Coordinate with other departments for event readiness and respond to urgent requests.
  • Reporting: Maintain records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections; prepare reports for the Director.

Rotation - weekdays/weekends 10:00 am - 8:00 pm/8:00 am - 6:00 pm

The YMCA of Brandon is a charity that has been part of our community since 1886. We have recently expanded our facility to accommodate a growing need in our area.

Under the supervision of the Director of Facilities, the Building Operator plays a crucial role in ensuring the optimal operation and maintenance of the Dood Cristall Family YMCA facility and its equipment. This hands-on position is responsible for executing a comprehensive preventative maintenance and repair program, ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all members and staff.

This role will work a 4 days on and for days off schedule with another Building Operator, working some stat holidays, call outs and overtime as required. The ability to maintain positivity and manage priorities in a dynamic, high-traffic environment is essential to providing a safe, engaging and supportive experience for staff and members alike.

Major Responsibilities and Abilities include:

  • Preventative Maintenance: Ensure compliance with maintenance standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Repairs and Troubleshooting: Conduct regular inspections to identify and address maintenance needs promptly. Oversee repairs for HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical systems, and general facility upkeep.
  • Safety Compliance: Enforce safety protocols and procedures. Conduct regular safety audits and ensure all maintenance activities comply with health and safety regulations.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain inventory of maintenance supplies and equipment.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments to ensure facility readiness for events and programs. Respond to urgent maintenance requests in a timely manner.
  • Reporting: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections. Prepare reports as required by the Director.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in facilities maintenance, with a focus on preventative maintenance and repairs.
  • Knowledge of and aptitude in Mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting and HVAC systems.
  • Experience in repair and maintenance of fitness equipment an asset.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and practices in facility maintenance.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Pool Operator’s license is required. (Will train)
  • Emergency First Aid
  • Current Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry checks.
