Job summary

JRoss Recruiters is seeking a hands-on maintenance technician for a bustling hospitality property in Toronto. You will perform maintenance across guestrooms, public areas, kitchens and event spaces to ensure guest-ready standards while adhering to safety protocols.

The role requires at least three years of building maintenance experience, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work independently while coordinating with a team.

Qualifications

  • Minimum three years of hands-on building maintenance experience in hospitality or similar.
  • Strong generalist maintenance and practical troubleshooting ability.
  • Experience with plumbing, basic electrical, HVAC, carpentry, drywall, painting and hardware.
  • Asset: experience with hotel guestrooms, commercial kitchens, laundry equipment, boilers or refrigeration.
  • Ability to diagnose root causes rather than just symptoms.
  • Work independently while staying connected with the team.
  • Service-oriented around guests and busy operations.
  • Detail-oriented; safe, clean repairs.
  • Familiar with work-order systems, email and digital tools.
  • Trade licences/certifications are assets; WHMIS training is asset.
  • Flexible availability including evenings, mornings, weekends and holidays.
  • On-call or emergency support rotation.
  • Stand/walk for extended periods; climb stairs/ladders; lift up to ~20 kg.
  • Ontario driver's license is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Complete hands-on maintenance and repairs throughout guestrooms, public areas, restaurants, bars, kitchens, event spaces and back-of-house areas.
  • Perform plumbing repairs, basic electrical work, HVAC troubleshooting, drywall, painting and carpentry within scope.
  • Repair and maintain doors, locks, hardware, fixtures, furniture and millwork.
  • Inspect guestrooms and operating areas, identify deficiencies and complete repairs to a guest-ready standard.
  • Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance on building systems and equipment.
  • Document completed maintenance and follow-up requirements through the work-order system.
  • Troubleshoot building equipment, laundry and kitchen issues and stabilize problems when needed.
  • Coordinate with licensed trades and elevate when required.
  • Respond to maintenance requests promptly; communicate timelines and access needs clearly.
  • Maintain tools, parts and maintenance areas in a safe, organized condition.
  • Support outside contractors by coordinating access and monitoring work in occupied areas.
  • Follow health and safety procedures and company policies.

Job description

  • Complete hands-on maintenance and repairs throughout guestrooms, public areas, restaurants, bars, kitchens, event spaces and back-of-house areas.
  • Perform plumbing repairs, basic electrical work, HVAC troubleshooting, drywall, painting, caulking, carpentry and general building maintenance within your training and safe scope.
  • Repair and maintain doors, locks, hardware, fixtures, furniture, millwork and other building components.
  • Inspect guestrooms and operating areas, identify deficiencies early and complete repairs to a clean, guest-ready standard.
  • Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance on building systems, equipment, filters, fixtures, guestrooms and operating areas.
  • Document completed maintenance, deficiencies and follow-up requirements through the work-order system.
  • Troubleshoot building equipment, laundry and commercial kitchen issues and safely stabilize problems when immediate repair is not possible.
  • Recognize when work requires a licensed or specialized trade and elevate appropriately.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to maintenance requests from guests and operational teams.
  • Communicate repair timelines, parts requirements, access needs and any temporary solutions clearly.
  • Ensure temporary repairs are tracked through to permanent resolution.
  • Support outside contractors and trades by coordinating access, providing relevant information and monitoring work in occupied areas.
  • Maintain tools, parts, equipment and maintenance areas in a safe and organized condition.
  • Support seasonal maintenance, events, small improvement projects and other priorities within a busy hospitality environment.
  • Follow occupational health and safety, fire and life-safety, PPE, lockout/tagout and company procedures.
  • Identify and report hazards, incidents and unsafe conditions promptly
Requirements
  • Minimum three years of hands‑on building maintenance experience within a hotel, restaurant, commercial, institutional, multi‑residential or similarly active property.
  • Strong generalist maintenance skills and practical troubleshooting ability.
  • Experience with plumbing, basic electrical, HVAC, carpentry, drywall, painting and building hardware.
  • Experience working with hotel guestrooms, commercial kitchens, laundry equipment, boilers, refrigeration or other hospitality systems is considered an asset.
  • Strong judgement and the ability to diagnose the cause of a problem rather than simply address the immediate symptom.
  • Ability to work independently while remaining connected and communicative with the broader team.
  • A service‑oriented approach and comfort completing maintenance work around guests and busy operational teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in completing repairs safely, cleanly and properly.
  • Comfortable using work‑order systems, email and basic digital tools.
  • Trade training, licences or relevant building systems certifications are considered assets.
  • WHMIS and other health and safety training are considered assets.
  • Flexible availability, including some evenings, early mornings, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to participate in a reasonable on‑call or emergency support rotation.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, climb stairs and ladders and safely lift up to approximately 20 kg.
  • Valid Ontario driver's licence is considered an asset.
