What can you expect?

The Handyperson provides support to the Building Maintenance department with respect to all building maintenance related needs within the Sunshine Village facilities. Handypersons focus on safety, efficiency, and being approachable and courteous. They conduct inspections, maintenance, and repair duties. Handypersons report to the Building Maintenance Supervisor, liaising frequently with operations, other maintenance departments, and contractors.

Key Responsibilities

1. Assist/respond to all building maintenance related issues or needs (sites include buildings, lifts at the resort, and the transportation hub in Banff), including inspections, disassembly, assembly, routine or annual maintenance.

Administrative and Reporting Responsibilities:

• Complete documentation such as daily checks/reports, assigned logs, and maintenance logs.
• Communicate any unusual operating conditions.
• Report all incidents and deficiencies promptly and accurately to the appropriate departments/personnel.
• Perform other duties as requested and assigned.

Experience/Requirements

• Skills in carpentry, painting, plumbing, drywalling, and general building maintenance.
• Positive, friendly attitude.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage stress.
• Willingness to work flexible schedules including weekends, holidays, nights, and extended hours.
• Prepared to work outdoors in all weather conditions with appropriate gear.
• Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
• Maintain professional conduct in uniform, online, and off-duty.
• Ability to support and train coworkers, including apprenticeships in trades.
• Attendance and active participation in meetings and training.
• Neatness, alertness, punctuality, and dependability.
• Ability to operate UTV, snowmobile, vehicles (with a valid AB driver’s license), and other industrial tools and equipment.
• Own basic tools relevant for building maintenance.

Additional Considerations

• Always of sound mind, good judgment, and fit for duty.
• Physical ability to stand long periods, rotate trunk, lift, push, and pull up to 45 kg.
• Capable of using specialty trade equipment.
• Ability to hike and move easily in remote alpine environments.
• Comfort with working at heights up to 5m using ladders/stairs.
• Provision of CSA-approved safety footwear and transportation to the resort may be required.
• Exposure to industrial chemicals such as solvents, oils, and grease.
• Potential pathway to an apprenticeship.
