Job summary

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a Shift Engineer 4 in Building Maintenance at UBC Hospital. You will operate, repair and maintain boilers, air conditioning units, emergency power and related equipment in accordance with safety codes.

Based in the Vancouver area, you will perform general building maintenance across electrical, mechanical, plumbing and other trades, supporting a team of trades personnel to keep hospital operations running smoothly.

Qualifications

• BC-registered 4th Class Power Engineer certificate required.
• At least 2 years of related maintenance experience.
• Experience with boilers, HVAC, and electrical systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate, repair and perform preventive maintenance on boilers, HVAC, emergency power and related equipment.
• Carry out general building maintenance across electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry and welding as needed.
• Support trades personnel on the hospital campus and ensure compliance with codes.

Job description

Come work as a Building Maintenance Engineer with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) at UBC Hospital!

Within the context of a complex health care system and in accordance with the policies, values and guidelines of Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), the Shift Engineer 4/Building Maintenance operates, repairs and carries out preventative maintenance on the boilers, air conditioning units, emergency power and other related equipment of the facility in compliance with applicable codes and regulations.

The Shift Engineer 4/Building Maintenance regularly performs general building maintenance and repair duties approaching the journeyman level in a variety of trades’ areas such as electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and welding, related to buildings and equipment. Also performs mechanical and electrical repairs to plant systems such as heating, air handling and pneumatic tube systems. Persons in this role must be prepared to act in various capacities regarding supporting maintenance in general terms.

This position will work within the hospital campus, and in a support role to trades personnel.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

Education & Experience

• Education & Experience Certificate of competency as a 4th Class Power Engineer recognized by the Province of BC.
• Two (2) years' recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
