Qualifications

  • Certificate of competency as a 4th class Power Engineer.
  • Two years recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experiences.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative and demand maintenance on autoclaves, washers, sterilizers, dryers, steam kettles and related equipment.
  • Maintain steam piping systems, valves, strainers, heat exchangers and insulation.
  • Operate boilers, pumps, fans and air compressors; monitor temperature, pressure and water levels.
  • Adjust chemical treatment systems and analyze formulas.
  • Ensure preventative maintenance is carried out and maintain activity logs.
  • Test and maintain auxiliary power generators and related equipment.
  • Monitor heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and calibrate instrumentation.
  • Perform boiler system analyses including combustion and water treatment.

Job description

Salary

The salary range for this position is CAD $37.72 - $37.72 / hour

Detailed Overview Reporting to the Chief Power Engineer 3, operates, maintains, and repairs equipment such as autoclaves, washers, sterilizers and other related equipment. Operates and maintains steam plant equipment, performs preventative and emergency maintenance on steam plant equipment.

Responsibilities
  1. Performs preventative and demand maintenance and repairs on autoclaves, washers, sterilizers, dryers, steam kettles, ovens and other related equipment by replacing and/or repairing items such as driver units, electric motors and control valves, changing seals, gaskets and bearings and installing water lines and drains.
  2. Maintains, repairs, replaces and extends steam piping systems including components of the physical plant such as expansion joints, valves, steam traps, strainers, heat exchangers, gauges and insulation.
  3. Operates steam and heating boiler/air conditioning systems by starting up and shutting down boilers and related pumps, fans, air compressors, steam expansion joints; monitors and adjusts temperature control system, pressure and feed water levels. Records meter and gauge readings to ensure distribution of steam/air heating to designated areas.
  4. Monitors and adjusts chemical treatment systems and analyzes chemical formulas.
  5. Monitors adherence to the Preventative Maintenance Program by ensuring staff carry out preventative maintenance on equipment and fixtures such as pumps, fans, air compressors, steam expansion joints by oiling and greasing equipment and repairing or replacing items such as valves, bearings, seals, fans and pumps.
  6. Tests and maintains auxiliary power generators and repairs/adjusts as required.
  7. Monitors and adjusts physical plant and heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems by operating a variety of mechanical, pneumatic and/or electronic control systems and performing such tasks as altering systems operating parameters and schedules; repairs and calibrates various instrumentation components of the steam and HVAC systems; maintains appropriate activity logs.
  8. Performs analysis on boiler systems such as combustion analysis, water treatment analysis and steam efficiency analysis.
  9. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Certificate of competency as a 4th class Power Engineer recognized by the Province of B.C.

Two years recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experiences.
