Job summary

Marine Atlantic is seeking a Bridgewatch Deckhand to join our fleet operating from Port aux Basques NL, North Sydney NS, and Argentia NL in summer. This permanent full-time spare/relief role schedules across our vessels based on operational needs and tours.

Duties include emergency response, documentation, deck and fire patrols, housekeeping of exterior and vehicle decks, inspection follow-ups, and reporting hazards. Candidates must hold STCW certificates and have 2+ years on large vessels.

Qualifications

• STCW certificates are required for deck operations at sea.
• Minimum 2 years of experience as a deckhand, AB or bosun on large vessels.
• Valid Marine Medical Examination as mandated by Transport Canada.
• Ability to work in confined spaces.

Responsibilities

• Daily safety checklists for fall protection, forklifts, manlifts and confined spaces.
• Carry out routine deck duties: painting, cleaning, and securing.
• Maintain vessel exterior and vehicle decks housekeeping.
• Rectify inspection items as directed by Bosun and safety committee.
• Hourly fire and security patrols of the vessel.
• Monitor passenger areas and deter unauthorized access.
• Inspect lashings and report cargo issues and hazards.
• Support vessel functions with other duties as required.
