Job summary

Vancouver Coastal Health in Vancouver General Hospital is seeking a Booking Clerk/Secretary to support the Hospital at Home team. You will handle scheduling, clerical tasks, and reception for a busy clinical area.

You will maintain calendars, input data into electronic systems, coordinate transportation, and respond to inquiries while assisting timekeeping and filing.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 with two years related experience or equivalent.
  • Ability to type accurately and at 40 wpm.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to organize work and manage schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and book patient appointments, tests and referrals.
  • Maintain appointment calendars for physicians and health professionals.
  • Greet clients and handle reception and inquiries.
  • Maintain charts in a computerized system and support timekeeping.

Job Summary

Come work as a Booking Clerk/Secretary with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) on the Hospital at Home team at Vancouver General Hospital!

Within the context of a client and family centered care model and in accordance with established vision and values of the organization, position provides scheduling/booking, clerical and reception functions for the area. Duties include scheduling and booking a variety of client/patient appointments and follow up visits, tests and referrals, maintaining appointment calendars for all designated physicians and/or other designated health care professionals, maintaining and printing daily schedules that integrate activities from various sites as needed, rearranging schedules to meet changing demands/requests and preparing and confirming client/patient information. Maintains client/patient charts entering data into a computerized system and updating statistics on client/patient attendance. Arranges for patient transportation. Provides clerical functions that include typing technical and non-technical materials proficiently utilizing a variety of computer software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software. Provides reception services by greeting clients/patients and others and directing them to appropriate areas and/or responding to general inquiries. Answers and responds to phone messages or forwards callers to appropriate health care professional or other personnel. Maintains departmental equipment, supplies and filing systems. Performs timekeeping functions for designated staff as required.

Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Grade 12, two year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Ability to keyboard at 40 w.p.m.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
