Job summary

Artemis Gold Inc invites applications for a Blaster 1 at the Blackwater Mine in British Columbia. This permanent role supports production blasting, ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and optimal fragmentation for downstream processing.

You will work with mine operations and technical services, maintaining records, and adhering to PPE protocols. A provincial Blaster Certification and five years’ blasting experience are required, with strong teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

  • Valid provincial Blaster Certification and all required explosives handling certification.
  • Minimum 5 years blasting experience in an open pit mining environment; gold mining experience is asset.
  • Thorough knowledge of explosives, initiation systems, blast design principles, and blasting best practices.
  • Strong understanding of applicable mining regulations, explosives legislation, and safety standards.
  • Experience identifying and managing misfires and other blasting-related hazards.
  • Ability to read and interpret blast plans, technical drawings, and mine layouts.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to coordinate across departments.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence.
  • Physically capable of working outdoors in varying weather and on uneven terrain.
  • Valid driver’s licence and ability to operate light vehicles on a mine site.

Responsibilities

  • Safely prepare, load, and initiate production and development blasts per approved designs.
  • Handle, transport, store, and account for explosives and accessories in compliance with legislation and policies.
  • Conduct pre-blast inspections to ensure secure areas and mitigated hazards.
  • Establish blast exclusion zones, communicate schedules, and coordinate with mine operations.
  • Perform initiation system tie-in and test circuit checks where applicable.
  • Execute blasts safely and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct post-blast inspections to verify success, identify misfires, and implement corrective actions.
  • Report and manage misfires per company procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of explosives usage, blast reports, inventory, and regulatory documentation.
  • Inspect and maintain blasting equipment, tools, and accessories.
  • Collaborate with engineers, drill operators, supervisors, and technical services to optimize fragmentation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve blasting practices, safety, and efficiency.
  • Participate in safety meetings, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • May be required to maintain a clean-shaven appearance to ensure PPE effectiveness.

Reporting to the Development Supervisor – Mining, the Blaster 1 is responsible for the safe and efficient execution of blasting activities to support mining operations. Working closely with mine operations, and technical services teams, the Blaster 1 prepares, loads, and detonates production and development blasts while ensuring compliance with all safety regulations, environmental standards, and company procedures. This role is critical to maintaining productivity, minimizing dilution, and optimizing fragmentation for downstream mining and processing activities.

Location: Blackwater Mine site

Schedule: Two (2) Weeks On – Two (2) Weeks Off Rotation
