Job summary

Artemis Gold Inc. seeks an experienced Blaster 2 at the Blackwater Mine site to safely prepare, load, and initiate production and development blasts in accordance with approved designs.

The role requires strict adherence to safety standards and regulatory requirements. The candidate will handle explosives, perform pre- and post-blast inspections, and collaborate with engineers, drill operators, and operations teams to optimize fragmentation and productivity.

Qualifications

  • Valid provincial Blaster Certification and explosives handling certifications.
  • Minimum 2 years blasting experience in an open pit mining environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of explosives, initiation systems, blast design principles, and blasting best practices.
  • Strong understanding of mining regulations, explosives legislation, and safety standards.
  • Experience identifying and managing misfires and other blasting-related hazards.
  • Ability to read and interpret blast plans, technical drawings, and mine layouts.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to coordinate effectively across multiple departments.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence.
  • Physically capable of working outdoors in varying weather conditions and on uneven terrain.

Responsibilities

  • Handle, transport, store, and account for explosives and accessories in compliance with applicable legislation and company policies.
  • Conduct pre-blast inspections to ensure blast areas are secure and hazards have been mitigated.
  • Establish and maintain blast exclusion zones, communicate blast schedules, and coordinate with mine operations.
  • Perform tie-in of initiation systems, test circuits where applicable, and ensure blast readiness.
  • Execute blasts safely and efficiently while adhering to all regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct post-blast inspections to verify blast success, identify misfires, and implement corrective actions.
  • Report and manage misfires in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of explosives usage, blast reports, inventory, and regulatory documentation.
  • Inspect and maintain blasting equipment, tools, and accessories.
  • Collaborate with engineers, drill operators, supervisors, and technical services to optimize blast performance and fragmentation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve blasting practices, safety, and operational efficiency.
  • Participate in safety meetings, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Overview

Reporting to the Development Supervisor – Mining, the Blaster 2 is responsible for the safe and efficient execution of blasting activities to support mining operations. Working closely with the lead blaster, mine operations, and technical services teams, the Blaster 2 prepares, loads, and detonates production and development blasts while ensuring compliance with all safety regulations, environmental standards, and company procedures. Blaster 2 must be able to fill in lead blaster responsibilities from time to time. This role is critical to maintaining productivity, minimizing dilution, and optimizing fragmentation for downstream mining and processing activities.

Location: Blackwater Mine site

Schedule: Two (2) Weeks On – Two (2) Weeks Off Rotation

  • May be required to maintain a clean-shaven appearance (i.e. no facial hair) to ensure the safe and effective use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) associated with assigned duties
Qualifications
  • Valid provincial Blaster Certification and all required explosives handling certifications
  • Minimum 2 years of blasting experience in an open pit mining environment; gold mining experience is considered an asset
  • Thorough knowledge of explosives, initiation systems, blast design principles, and blasting best practices
  • Strong understanding of applicable mining regulations, explosives legislation, and safety standards
  • Experience identifying and managing misfires and other blasting-related hazards
  • Ability to read and interpret blast plans, technical drawings, and mine layouts.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to coordinate effectively across multiple departments
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence
  • Physically capable of working outdoors in varying weather conditions and on uneven terrain
  • Valid driver's licence and ability to operate light vehicles on a mine site
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing project needs and responsibilities
  • High school diploma or equivalent
