HJF is seeking a Biomedical Equipment Repair Technician in support of the Defense Health Agency's (DHA) Armed Forces Medical Examiner System (AFMES) at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware. The technician will maintain and repair equipment used within research and clinical laboratories, including evaluating, installing, maintaining, calibrating, troubleshooting, and repairing sophisticated medical equipment. They will also provide training and guidance to lower-graded technicians and serve as a liaison between logistics, vendors, and users.

AFMES is a Tri-Service organization comprising administrative S-Staff and three divisions: Forensic Pathology Investigation, DoD DNA Operations, and Forensic Toxicology. Its mission is to provide medico-legal services worldwide, including human remains identification, forensic toxicology, death investigations, forensic DNA analysis, and related services.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine by supporting scientific programs that benefit military personnel and civilians. Established in 1983, HJF connects the military medical community with federal and private partners.

This position is contingent on contract award.

Responsibilities
  1. Maintain accurate records of system problems and issues.
  2. Perform preventative maintenance and monitor the status of medical equipment to meet mission requirements, forecasting replacements as needed.
  3. Inspect, assemble, install, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and test equipment.
  4. Restore equipment to operational standards before returning to users.
  5. Conduct on-site inspections and verify work quality.
  6. Prepare electronic forms for parts and service requests.
  7. Cross-reference parts and manage work orders in DMLSS.
  8. Update maintenance records and perform scheduled calibrations.
  9. Verify equipment details and open repair work orders as needed.
  10. Inspect new equipment and coordinate vendor repairs, confirming costs and posting labor hours.
  11. Assist with radiation surveys and maintain safety standards.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned, including participation in training.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • May recommend hiring, disciplinary actions, and performance evaluations for assigned lead technicians.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate's degree preferred.
  • 6-8 years of relevant experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Practical knowledge of technical engineering methods and repair practices in medical settings.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards (e.g., JC, CAP, SMDA, EPA, CFR).
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to train and guide lower technicians.
  • Strong record-keeping skills.
  • US Citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain a T3/Secret Clearance.
Physical Capabilities
  • Lift materials up to 25 lbs.
  • Stand or sit for prolonged periods.
  • Climb, pull, and lift heavy objects.
  • Operate machinery and tools.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Certified Biomedical Technician preferred.
Work Environment
  • Primarily laboratory setting.
Compensation
  • Annual salary range: $64,200 - $109,200, based on experience and education.
