About the job:
The Biomedical Engineering Technologist, aligned with the organization's vision and values, travels across Interior Health to perform technical functions related to the Biomedical Engineering Program. Responsibilities include evaluating, repairing, inspecting, maintaining records, and supporting clinical staff with educational and technical information on medical equipment.
Typical duties and responsibilities:
- Repair and calibrate biomedical equipment, including after-hours and on-call services.
- Conduct safety and performance inspections, tests, and preventive maintenance.
- Perform incoming inspections, evaluate new equipment, install, monitor installation, perform quality control and safety checks, and prepare reports.
- Maintain records on labor, travel, and parts used, in line with department policies.
- Travel to hospitals for repairs and maintenance as directed.
- Manage supply levels, order parts, and handle procurement activities.
- Provide technical information to clinical and technical staff regarding equipment safety, operation, maintenance, procurement, installation, and disposal.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders on equipment purchase, replacement, or repair decisions.
- Participate in equipment replacement planning, providing insights on obsolete or high-failure-rate equipment.
- Address device hazard alerts and recalls, and identify hazards to ensure safety.
- Conduct performance and safety testing related to incident investigations and support Health Canada reporting.
- Attend training and educational opportunities to stay updated on new products and practices.
- Work with manufacturers' service personnel during installation and warranty work, ensuring compliance.
- Provide orientation and supervision to staff and students, and evaluate their progress.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Education, Training, and Experience:
Graduation from a recognized Biomedical Equipment Technology Program or equivalent. Eligibility for membership in Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of B.C. and a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's License are required.
