Job summary

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is seeking a supervisor for specimen reception within the Biochemistry Laboratories in South Glasgow. The role involves supervising Healthcare Support Workers and Assistant Practitioners to ensure a high-quality, timely pre-analytical service.

Permanent, full-time with shift patterns 08:00–20:00, base location Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. NHSGGC offers a comprehensive employment package including pension benefits and learning opportunities.

Qualifications

• HNC/SVQ Level 3/SCQF Level 7 equivalent qualification in a science subject.
• Theoretical or applied training to diploma-equivalent level.
• In-depth knowledge of specimen reception duties and procedures.
• Strong technical knowledge and practical skills in laboratory reception services.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and support HCSWs and APs in specimen reception.
• Ensure the provision of a high-quality, timely, and cost-efficient pre-analytical service.
• Organise staff and workloads to maintain an efficient departmental workflow.
• Prioritise urgent requests to meet service demands.
• Balance competing demands between routine and specialist laboratory areas.
• Use technical knowledge and skills to advise and support staff.
