Ian Martin Group is hiring a Bilingual Financial Analyst in Gatineau, QC on a 12-month contract. The role combines in-office and remote work, with hybrid scheduling (in-office Monday, Tuesday, Thursday; remote Wednesday, Friday).

You will support month-end close, prepare financial statements, and lead analyses to drive business decisions. Qualified candidates will have a CPA designation or equivalent, 7+ years of relevant experience, and fluency in French and English.

Responsibilities

  • Support month-end close activities and prepare journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly and annual financial statements with commentary on performance.
  • Analyze variances and explain drivers such as volumes, costs, and taxes.
  • Provide financial data and ad hoc analyses for planning and decision making.
  • Assist in audits and regulatory filings and contribute to budgeting and forecasting.

Bilingual Financial Analyst (fluent in French and English)

  • Contract Length: 12 Months

Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable.

Job Overview:
  • Gazifère's Finance Team is seeking to fill a succession position. As a key member of the Finance Team, you will play an integral role in executing the company's accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and regulatory activities. This position requires a strategic and analytical finance professional who can contribute to decision‑making, support regulatory compliance, and drive continuous improvement across financial operations.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate in month-end close activities, including preparing journal entries, performing account reconciliations, analyzing results, explaining variances, and producing financial reports, primarily related to capital management, long‑term debt, dividends, payroll, and pension activities.
  • Prepare, analyze, and distribute monthly and annual financial statements, including insightful commentary on financial performance and key business drivers.
  • Review month‑end entries and identify, investigate, and explain significant variances in financial results, including assumptions related to volumes, distribution rates, customer growth, operating expenses, capital expenditures, and income taxes.
  • Provide accurate financial data, reports, and ad hoc analyses to support business planning, operational decision‑making, and strategic initiatives.
  • Participate in interim and year‑end audit activities by preparing supporting documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of regulatory filings, responses, and supporting documentation.
  • Research, document, and recommend accounting policy positions in compliance with U.S. GAAP requirements.
  • Contribute to the annual budgeting process, periodic forecasting activities, and long‑term financial planning initiatives.
  • Review and improve financial processes, controls, and reporting practices to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and overall effectiveness.
  • Maintain, update, and develop financial models and analytical tools to support evolving business requirements.
  • Develop a broad understanding of all Finance Team functions and provide support across multiple areas as required.
  • Demonstrate leadership in identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and contributing to a collaborative, high‑performing finance environment.
Qualifications:
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent).
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive and relevant accounting and financial analysis experience.
  • Bilingualism in both French and English is required.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem‑solving capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly and effectively.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while also managing responsibilities independently and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, initiative, and a strong team‑oriented mindset.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to quickly understand, interpret, and apply complex accounting and financial concepts.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, with demonstrated experience in financial modeling and analysis.
  • Experience with Oracle and Hyperion is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of federal and Québec tax compliance requirements and taxation matters.
  • Familiarity with project profitability analysis, capital investment evaluation, and financial decision‑making methodologies is considered an asset.
