Job summary

MEDA Engineering & Technical Services in Southwestern Ontario seeks a Battery Simulation Engineer to support an automotive client. You will develop and validate electrical and thermal models of cells, modules and packs, and collaborate with design and test teams on safe, high-performance battery systems.

Required MSc in engineering, 2+ years of simulation experience using GT-SUITE, MATLAB/Simulink, or Amesim, and strong English communication.

Qualifications

Master of Science degree in Engineering or Applied Physics from an accredited university.
Minimum 2 years of experience using simulation tools for engineering applications.
Hands-on experience with 0D/1D battery simulation and analysis tools such as GT-SUITE, MATLAB/Simulink, Amesim, or equivalent.
Strong understanding of lithium-ion battery fundamentals, including performance, thermal behavior, and aging.
Knowledge of HV electrical circuits, busbar design, and BDU functionality in battery systems.
Ability to analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings clearly.
Experience with optimization methods (DOE, parameter estimation, control optimization).
Excellent verbal and written communication in English; able to present findings to cross-functional teams.
Proven teamwork and problem-solving using analytical and simulation-based approaches.
Solid foundation in battery fundamentals, simulation techniques, and systems thinking.

Responsibilities

Develop, validate, and apply electrical and thermal models of battery cells, modules, and packs.
Support integration of high-performance, safe battery systems across applications.
Respond to technical requests using established tools and develop new modeling approaches.
Develop physics-based and empirical models for electrical, thermal, and degradation performance.
Conduct 1D simulations to evaluate behavior under various conditions including fast charging and aging.
Analyze lab data to extract model parameters and validate results.
Perform sensitivity studies and model-based evaluations to guide design decisions.
Collaborate with design engineers and cross-functional teams to optimize system performance.
Prepare technical docs, reports, and presentations summarizing methodologies and outcomes.
Share progress and insights with stakeholders across product teams.
