WHAT’S THE JOB?

Based at a world-class Horizon North camp facility, the position involves a 20-day on, 10-day off rotation, with 11-hour workdays. Transportation is provided from a pickup point in Edmonton. The Baker / Breakfast Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking breakfast and baked goods to Horizon North’s high standards.

This is a safety-sensitive role requiring drug, alcohol, and fitness testing as a condition of employment.

Your Responsibilities

• Preparing and baking goods from scratch
• Restocking pastry shelves and maintaining fresh baked goods
• Creating and following menus to ensure quality and meet dietary requirements
• Wrapping and dating baked goods according to production schedules
• Maintaining consistent food quality and considering dietary constraints
• Ensuring proper equipment operation, safety, and sanitation
• Complying with food hygiene regulations under the Food Safety Act
• Supervising night shift employees, providing mentorship and training

Qualifications

• Interprovincial Red Seal Certification or relevant culinary education leading to Red Seal
• FoodSafe Level I minimum; additional certifications like SafeCheck or HACCP are assets
• At least 3 years’ experience in cooking and baking, preferably in large-scale or institutional settings
• Experience preparing baked goods for large groups
• Supervisory experience
• Must score 80% or higher on the WHMIS test
