Job summary

RBC Borealis is seeking a senior backend engineer to design, build, and maintain secure backend services for the metadata management platform. You will work on scalable data models, RESTful APIs, and integration with diverse data sources, ensuring compliance and auditability across enterprise data platforms.

You'll contribute to the Lumina Data Management control plane, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and mentor junior developers while advancing cloud-ready solutions in a regulated

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend development experience.
• Expertise in Python (Flask or similar).
• Strong MongoDB experience (schema design, aggregation, indexing, performance).
• Experience designing and documenting RESTful APIs (OpenAPI/Swagger).
• Deep understanding of JSON data modeling for large documents.
• Familiarity with data governance concepts (compliance, lineage, quality).
• Experience integrating external data sources (databases, files, APIs).
• Knowledge of security best practices (auth, authz, secret management).
• Proficient with Git and collaborative workflows.

Responsibilities

• Architect, design, and develop robust backend services using Python and MongoDB.
• Design and optimize large JSON-based data models for metadata and governance.
• Implement and maintain RESTful APIs with OpenAPI/Swagger documentation.
• Integrate with external systems and data sources for metadata collection.
• Ensure data security, compliance, and auditability across solutions.
