Job summary

RBC is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to develop and maintain scalable data stores forming the Market Risk ecosystem. You will optimize data solutions, ensure high-quality data assets, and lead data engineering projects with hands-on coding.

Ideal candidates have strong Java/Scala backend experience, Spring/Spring Boot expertise, and 3+ years with big data tools. Collaboration with business and IT teams is essential, as is adherence to governance and security standards.

Qualifications

• 5+ years developing in Java/Scala.
• 5+ years building backend applications with Spring/Spring Boot.
• 3+ years hands-on experience with big data tools (e.g. Spark/Hadoop/AWS Glue/AWS EMR/Snowpark/Azure Databricks/Azure Data Factory).
• Excellent communication skills—able to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field; Master’s or PhD preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and review scalable data pipelines, data lakes, warehouses and analytical platforms with end-to-end ownership.
• Set Technical Direction: promote best practices in data engineering and evaluate emerging technologies.
• Partner Cross-Functionally: work with business leaders and IT to translate needs into technical solutions.
• Deliver at Scale: ensure high-quality, timely delivery and enforce data governance and security standards.
