Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. is seeking an Equipment Operator / AZ Driver in Canada to transport and process municipal biosolids and wood residuals, and to operate tractors and heavy equipment.

This role involves field duties at client sites and on-road transportation between sites, with emphasis on safety and regulatory compliance. The position requires an AZ license, 3+ years of driver/operator experience, strong written and verbal communication skills, and a willingness to learn.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years of driver/operator experience preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• AZ license with current abstracts, CVOR (no demerits).
• Solid written technical communication for paperwork and online training.
• Excellent verbal communication with team and customers.
• Experience with heavy machinery; mining or agricultural sector a plus, training available.
• Good judgment, proactive thinking.
• Strong customer service, work ethic and attitude.

Responsibilities

• Operate motorized vehicles to move material between client sites.
• Complete documents online (pre/post trip inspections, manifests, logbooks, etc.) in a timely, legible manner.
• Ensure equipment and systems are operated per GFL standards.
• Knowledge of Reg. 347/558, WMHIS, MTO regulations.
• Standard shift is Monday to Friday with flexible daytime hours.
• Adhere to Environmental and Health & Safety policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Load and unload trucks in field settings.
• Spread material onto mine lands.
• Operate tillage tools including tractors and manure spreaders.
• Knowledge of farming practices and Nutrient Management Regulation is an asset.
• Willing to obtain required licensing/training for future promotion.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job description

As an Equipment Operator / AZ Driver, you will be responsible for assisting in the transportation, processing and land application of Municipal biosolids and wood residuals. Responsibilities include running highway tractors, agriculture equipment and heavy equipment such as front-end loaders and bull dozers.

As an AZ Operator, you will provide transportation services between customer sites in an acceptable and safe manner.

Key Accountabilitieswhen driving

• Light computer/App skills: Accurately complete numerous and various documents online, including pre/post trip inspections, manifests, logbooks, VCRs, H&S meetings and procedures, etc., in a legible and timely manner to meet compliance requirements
• Ensure that all equipment and systems are operated as per GFL standards
• Knowledge of Reg. 347/558, WMHIS, MTO regulations
• Standard shift is Monday to Friday with flexible daytime hours
• Drivers are required to adhere to all Environmental and Health & Safety policies and procedures
• Perform other duties assigned

Experience, Qualifications & Education

• Three (3) years of driver/operator experience is preferred
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Must possess an AZ license and submit current abstracts, personal and CVOR (no demerits)
• Must have solid written technical communication skills in order to complete required paperwork and online training
• Must have exceptional verbal communication skills to be able to interact with team members and internal/external customers
• Prior experience operating heavy machinery is typically found within a mining environment. Operation of farm equipment in an agricultural environment is a definite asset. However, we are willing to train potential candidates who demonstrate a willingness to learn
• Must be able to exercise good judgment and think proactively
• Excellent customer service skills, with strong work ethics and a positive attitude
