Job description

Job Title: Avionics Installer Cormorant Helicopter Program

This role focuses on avionics installation and electrical modifications on Cormorant helicopter platforms as part of a long-term engagement with the US Air Force. You will work in large, clean hangars performing hands-on installation, testing, and troubleshooting of avionics systems and electrical wire harnesses, using provided tools and working closely with a dedicated team of technicians.

Responsibilities
  • Install, route, and secure electrical wire harnesses on Cormorant helicopter aircraft.
  • Finalize and assemble connectors, ensuring proper crimping, termination, and strain relief.
  • Read and interpret electrical plans and blueprints to execute accurate installations.
  • Perform continuity checks on wiring and harnesses to verify proper electrical connections.
  • Conduct basic functional testing of avionics systems to confirm correct operation after installation.
  • Use crimpers and a variety of electrical tooling to complete precise and reliable terminations.
  • Carry out avionics installation tasks in accordance with established procedures, technical documentation, and quality standards.
  • Assist with troubleshooting of avionics systems and wiring issues under the guidance of senior technicians or engineers.
  • Follow all safety protocols while working in hangars and on aircraft, including proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • Collaborate with a team of 1012 technicians on the CP140 and other military aircraft to meet project milestones and deadlines.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper handling and storage of tools and materials.
  • Communicate clearly in spoken and written English to understand work instructions, complete documentation, and coordinate with team members.
Essential Skills
  • Avionics Diploma from a Transport Canada recognized trade school (for example, Centennial College or ENA), OR a Transport Canada E-license, OR relevant military experience in avionics or aircraft electrical work.
  • 12 years of experience in avionics or aircraft electrical installation.
  • Proven ability to install and route electrical connectors and wire harnesses on aircraft.
  • Experience performing continuity checks on electrical systems and wiring.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical plans, diagrams, and blueprints.
  • Proficiency using crimpers and standard electrical tooling for aircraft installations.
  • Ability to speak, read, and understand English to follow technical instructions and safety procedures.
  • Capability to work in a controlled goods and security-cleared environment, as required for military aircraft projects.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience performing avionics functional tests and avionics troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience working on C130-J aircraft.
  • Background working on military aircraft platforms or in a military aviation maintenance environment.
  • Familiarity with avionics systems installation and functional verification on rotary- or fixed-wing aircraft.
  • Comfort working within a unionized environment and collaborating in a structured team setting.

Work Environment

Work takes place in clean, large aircraft hangars across multiple buildings, including three main hangars housing various military aircraft. The team on the CP140 platform typically consists of 1012 people, fostering close collaboration and shared expertise. The workforce is unionized, creating a structured environment with established processes and clear expectations. Tools required for avionics installation and electrical work are provided on site. Dress is casual and practical, with no formal dress code; employees are expected to wear safety steel-toe boots, clean work pants, and t-shirts appropriate for hangar work. Shifts include a day shift from Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and an evening shift from Sunday to Thursday, 4:00 p.m. to midnight, with occasional weekend work possible depending on project needs.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
