Job summary

Mary River Mine Site, NU, Canada, is seeking an Environmental/Regulatory specialist to lead regulatory reporting, permit development, and closure planning while integrating environmental management with site operations.

You will collaborate with government bodies, NGOs, and communities, travel to remote locations, and mentor staff, shaping sustainable mining practices in a culturally diverse Inuit context.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in environmental science, engineering or related field (graduate asset).
  • 5 to 10 years in environmental engineering, sustainable development or environmental field.
  • Experience in regulatory reporting, permit development and closure security.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with diverse staff, clients and consultants.
  • Ability to communicate with government officials (verbal and written).
  • Ability to communicate with Inuit.
  • Experience in mining operations.
  • Results oriented with strong project management and analytical skills.
  • Willingness to travel to remote northern locations.
  • Positive leadership with empathetic approach.

Responsibilities

  • Manage regulatory reporting requirements for site operations (quarterly and annual).
  • Liaise with Government and official bodies on project development, construction and closure.
  • Attend regulatory and community meetings and support annual work plans.
  • Develop, manage and ensure completion of the Annual Work Plan.
  • Work with operations and finance to develop annual security requirements.
  • Ensure Interim Closure Plan is up to date and regulatory compliant.
  • Support refinement of Environmental Management System for site operations.
  • Provide training materials for employees on regulatory requirements.

Main Accountabilities
  • Manage the development of regulatory reporting requirements for site operations including quarterly and annual reporting requirements under the commercial lease and water license
  • Liaise with Government and official bodies on project development, on-going construction and closure
  • Attend regulatory and community meetings, as
  • Develop, manage and ensure completion of the Annual Work Plan
  • Work with operations and finance to develop annual security requirements
  • Ensure that the Interim Closure Plan is up to date and meets regulatory requirements
  • Support the refinement of the Environmental Management System for site operations
  • Provide the training and education materials for Baffinland employees to ensure proper communication of regulatory requirements in day to day construction and operational activities.
  • Foster positive business relationships and build appropriate contact between NGOs, communities and company
  • Develop and present community consultation materials including presentations, posters, brochures,
  • Participate in website content and branding initiatives for Sustainable
  • Support Baffinland participation in technical conferences and industry
Main Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in environmental science, engineering or related field (a graduate degree in sustainability, environmental science or engineering would be an asset).
  • 5 to 10 years of relevant work experience in the environmental engineering, sustainable development or environmental field.
  • Previous experience in regulatory reporting, permit development and closure security
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact professionally with culturally and linguistically diverse staff, clients and consultants.
  • Ability to communicate and interact with government officials (both verbally and in writing) .
  • Ability to effectively communicate with Inuit
  • Experienced in mining operations .
  • Results oriented with strong project management and analytical
  • Flexibility to travel to remote northern locations, as
  • A positive leader with an ability to influence and empathetic approach
