As an Automation Specialist within our Calgary office, you will excel in a multi-faceted role supporting our clients in the Automation Solutions space. You will be pivotal in solving our customers’ business problems using your creativity and technical expertise to create, design and implement innovative control system solutions. Ultimately, you will provide superior client experiences partnering with your internal team to cohesively deliver a vision, energy, and intensity that exceeds client expectations.

What would a typical day look like?

  • Technically, Automation Specialists will work on various stages of automation and control projects including PLC programming, HMI design, SCADA system design, electrical design and troubleshooting / testing / debugging, controls documents
  • Supporting the preparation of technical documentation, including functional design specifications and test plans.
  • Participate in system commissioning activities including I / O checkout, loop tuning, and functional testing.
  • Participating in planning sessions that will identify industry business drivers and trends that will serve as the basis for developing key offerings to our clients
  • Attending client meetings or project check-ins to provide updates and gather requirements.
  • Assist with troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving technical issues on-site and remotely.

What qualifies you for this opportunity?

  • Post-secondary degree / diploma in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or equivalent qualifications preferred.
  • Ideally 1-3 years’ experience with PLC Programming and HMI / SCADA Design primarily in Rockwell and Schneider
  • Experience commissioning at customer sites including t roubleshooting, testing and debugging of systems
  • A proven self-starter with a positive attitude, who is motivated by solving complex challenges
  • A strong client-focused approach, dedicated to providing exceptional client experiences to our internal and external customers
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Motivated & passionate about working with people and overcoming challenges through collaboration and a win-win paradigm
  • An ability to travel; Automation Specialists at Convergix will require the ability to travel within the US and Canada 25-40% of the time

Physical Demands :

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to feel objects, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, talk and hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required for the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Occasionally lifts or move up to 25 pounds.
