Job summary

TCA Technologies Inc. is seeking an Automation Engineering Co‑op to join our on‑site team in Puslinch, ON. You will collaborate with experienced engineers to design, program, integrate, and commission custom automation equipment across multiple industries.

The role exposes you to controls engineering, electrical design, robotics, and system testing, offering hands-on experience from concept through commissioning in a multidisciplinary environment.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree or diploma in a relevant engineering field such as mechatronics, electrical, or mechanical Engineering.
  • Interest in industrial automation, controls, robotics, and machine design.
  • Experience with PLC programming, robotics, or controls is a plus.
  • Familiarity with CAD software (AutoCAD or SolidWorks) is an asset.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with design, development, implementation, documentation, and troubleshooting of custom automation projects.
  • Support PLC programming, HMI development, troubleshooting, and system testing.
  • Assist with robotic, vision, motion control, and safety system integration.
  • Create and update electrical and controls documentation, drawings, and BOMs.
  • Support machine assembly, startup, commissioning, and debugging activities.
  • Collaborate with engineers, electricians, programmers, machinists, and assemblers through project lifecycles.
  • Contribute to prototype development, equipment testing, and process improvements.
  • Review builds and help resolve technical issues during manufacturing and integration.
  • Participate in project meetings and contribute to problem-solving discussions.
  • Maintain organized project documentation and records.

Role Summary

This is a full-time, on-site co-op position located in Puslinch, ON.

As an Automation Engineering Co-op student, you will work alongside experienced automation professionals to support the design, programming, integration, and commissioning of custom automation equipment.

This role provides exposure to controls engineering, electrical design, robotics, machine assembly, commissioning, and system testing, making it an excellent opportunity for students interested in industrial automation.

What You'll Learn & Work On
  • Assist with the design, development, implementation, documentation, and troubleshooting of custom automation projects

  • Create and update electrical and controls documentation, drawing packages, and bills of materials
  • Support machine assembly, startup, commissioning, and debug activities
  • Work with engineers, electricians, programmers, machinists, and assemblers to bring projects from concept to completion
  • Assist in prototype development, equipment testing, and process improvements
  • Review machine builds and help resolve technical issues during manufacturing and integration
  • Participate in project meetings and contribute to problem-solving discussions
  • Maintain organized project documentation and engineering records
Qualifications & Experience
  • Currently pursuing a degree or diploma in Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Systems and Computing, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline
  • Interest in industrial automation, controls systems, robotics, and machine design
  • Experience with PLC programming, robotics, or controls systems is considered an asset
  • Familiarity with CAD software such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks is an asset
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and eager to learn
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering team

The expected rate for this position is $20.00/HR - $28.00/HR. The total compensation may vary depending on the candidate's skills, experience, qualifications, and other relevant factors.
