Job summary

S&C Electric Canada is seeking an Assistant CNC Operator for the Afternoon Shift as a co‑op student for Winter 2027. You will set up, adjust and operate CNC machines, handle material movement with lifts, and help meet production targets in a safety‑minded environment.

This role requires a post‑secondary degree pursuit in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering, eligibility for a 4‑month co‑op, and strong attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a post‑secondary degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Manufacturing Engineering.
• Eligible for a 4 month Co‑op work term starting Winter 2027.
• Experience in manufacturing and CNC operation is an asset.
• Ability to read blueprints and use precision measurement tools.

Responsibilities

• Set up, adjust and operate CNC machines according to orders and specs.
• Assist in machine setup with minor programming and calibration.
• Move materials with pumps/cranes and ensure safe handling.
• Inspect parts for quality and assist with shift planning.
• Maintain a clean workspace and support continuous improvement.

Work Schedule:

Monday - Thursday; 4:00pm - 2:00am (38hrs per week)

Work Term:

Winter 2027 (Jan. - Apr.)

Compensation

At S&C, we are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members, with a commitment to transparency in our pay practices. The hourly pay range for this position is $21.50 - $29.40. Individual pay within this range is determined by several compensable factors, including the year of study, type of academic program, and the number of prior co‑op work terms completed.

This position is entitled to a $1 shift premium amount per hour.

Join Our Team as an Assistant CNC Operator - Afternoon Shift (Co-op)

Key Responsibilities

• Set up, adjust and operate CNC machine according to work orders and specifications.
• Responsible for set up with minor program.
• Use manual pump trucks, cranes (over head / jib) and lift devices as required to move material and finished product(s).
• Monitor machine operation and perform trouble shooting tactics when necessary.
• Ensure parts are manufactured in accordance with quality standards, target plans and verify correct run quantities.
• Visually inspect parts after each machine cycle and perform inspections as required.
• Optimize the running of parts to best take advantage of the machine’s operating time.
• Filling out production boards with output for the shift as well as assisting in planning afternoon shift production.
• Maintain cleanliness of work area and follow organizational practices.
• Strives for continuous improvement in all aspects of the work environment.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues as required.li>
• Other duties as assigned.
• Perform all his duties following Health and Safety procedures, including but not limited to wear PPE, follow sanitization routines, etc.

What You’ll Need To Succeed

• Currently pursuing a post‑secondary degree/diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
• Enrolled and eligible for a 4 month Co‑op work term starting in Winter 2027 (Jan. - Apr.)
• Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment considered an asset.
• Previous experience as a CNC Machine Operator considered an asset.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
• Ability to use caliper, micrometer, go no-go gauges, etc.
• Excellent mechanical/mathematical aptitude and manual dexterity.
• Good communication skills with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Attention to detail.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced work environment with minimal supervision.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement manufacturing principles considered an asset.

Physical Effort

• Standing: All tasks are performed in a standing position with intermittent walking.
• Lifting: Frequent lifting of items ranging in weight from 5 lbs to 20 lbs.
• Walking: Occasional walking moderate distances (less than 1km).
• Carrying: Frequent carrying of items ranging in weight from 5 lbs. to 20 lbs.
• Pushing: Occasional pushing of motorized material handling carts with loaded weights up to 1000 lbs.
• Pulling: Occasional pulling of motorized material handling carts with loaded weights up to 1000 lbs.
• Bending: Frequent bending and crouching to safely lift parts of various sizes and shapes.
• Reaching: Continuous full range of motion from above the shoulders to below the knees.
• Handling: Continuous handling of parts ranging in weight from 5 lbs. to 20 lbs.

Work Environment

Acceptable working environment with minor or almost no disagreeable or challenging working conditions as part of everyday expected levels (all jobs will occasionally experience undesirable or disagreeable events).
