Job summary

Pratt & Whitney Canada in Longueuil, QC, is seeking skilled machinists for an automated manufacturing floor. You will work on turbine and compressor components for the GTF program, supporting on-time delivery in a collaborative, primarily French-speaking environment with some English on technical notes.

Ideal candidates hold a DVS in Machining Techniques, plus CNC machining credentials and either a DEC in mechanical or aerospace engineering, with strong teamwork and problem-solving abilities.

Qualifications

• Ability to work in a team within a highly automated manufacturing environment.
• Basic English for understanding specialized work instructions and drawings.

Responsibilities

• Ensure optimal production of equipment, machines, and tools.
• Analyze work, identify requirements, and flag difficulties early.

What will your daily routine look like?

Main Functions:

Working Environment

• We mainly produce the turbines and compressors of the GTF engine program, notably used for the Airbus A320neo & A220 as well as the Embraer E2.

• Highly automated manufacturing line, combining advanced robotics and closed-door machining technologies, unique in the world.

• Collaborate within a qualified and passionate team, ready to share their knowledge and work closely together to improve the working environment.

Production Plan

• Ensure optimal production of equipment, machines, and tools.

• Analyze work, identify production requirements, and detect in advance special requirements regarding difficulties.

• Diagnose production indicators, statistical data, and perform operating cycles to simultaneously operate multiple machines or internal or external processes within the advanced manufacturing center.

• Maintain and optimally control the production flow and part inventories.

• Perform necessary settings, adjustments, and alignments of tools, equipment, and precision measuring instruments.

• Take required actions to maintain production pace in order to respect on-time delivery to customers.

Maintenance Plan

• Perform first-level diagnostics to identify the source of problems, intervene and/or coordinate interventions by various support groups. Apply knowledge of equipment and robotics/networking as a first responder.

• Apply the maintenance plan for equipment/processes, perform autonomous maintenance routines as well as any kind of minor maintenance work such as maintaining fluid/media/acid levels; inspection, cleaning, and lubrication of parts and gauges; minor repairs of machinery, tooling, and mechanical equipment, and act as support during interventions.

• Use various computer systems and technologies such as the interface of machines and automated lines, dashboards, ESS systems, tooling, maintenance, and consumables management systems, and/or any other computer systems necessary for the proper functioning of the advanced manufacturing center.

Global Quality Plan

• Validate compliance with the quality plan by performing dimensional and visual checks on parts and tools according to the sampling plan.

• Proactively analyze indicators. Investigate the causes of repetitive problems. Recommend, direct, implement, and ensure follow-up of preventive or corrective actions as well as work techniques and methods.

• Use mechanisms such as "ANDON" to signal events that hinder work progression according to standards.

• Apply calibration routines and ensure tooling integrity by keeping appropriate records up to date.

• Document all requirements related to the global quality plan.

• Initiate and direct quality clinics to meet overall yield rates.

• Validate that parts meet all requested standards and specifications.

Related Functions

May be called upon to perform various tasks or operations such as ATTI verification, shot peening, sandblasting, polishing, cleaning by various chemical and mechanical processes, simple deburring, masking and unmasking of parts and/or various articles, etc., to ensure the continuous flow of materials. In addition, they perform tasks external to the AMC such as balancing, inspection, and packaging.

Requirements

• Diploma of Vocational Studies (DVS) in Machining Techniques

• AEC (Attestation of College Studies) in Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machining

• DEC (Diploma of College Studies) in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering

• Ability to work in a team

• This position takes place in a French-speaking work environment, however, it requires a basic knowledge of English to understand certain specialized work instructions, drawings, and technical terms that may emanate from international organizations.
