Job summary

BTY Group in Toronto is seeking an Associate Director to join our Cost Management team. You will lead cost estimation efforts, mentor staff, and coordinate with the Director to deliver high-impact projects that shape communities.

You will quantify materials, prepare cost plans across design stages, and provide proactive cost-management guidance to clients while maintaining QA/QC standards and strong stakeholder communication.

Qualifications

  • 8 to 12+ years of relevant experience.
  • 3+ years mentoring and leading a team.
  • University degree or equivalent in relevant fields.
  • Working towards PQS and/or MRICS qualification.
  • Intermediate experience with Office, CostX, Planswift or similar tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of consultant reports and development proposals.
  • Advanced knowledge of the construction industry and related services.
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills with sound judgment.
  • Responsive to stakeholder requests with proactive communication.
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational and reporting abilities.
  • Ability to work in a team and drive own initiatives.
  • Attention to detail and good time management.
  • Eligible to work in Canada or pursuing a work permit.

Responsibilities

We provide clear, data-driven insights at every design stage, advising on constructability, escalation, contingency, cash flow, and life-cycle costs to reduce risk and maximize value. Powered by a robust database of material and labour costs, our accredited professionals benchmark and market-test every estimate, ensuring accuracy across regions, asset classes, and changing market conditions.

Our Cost Management team is looking for an Associate Director to join our Toronto office.

What You Get to Do
  • Prepare the quantification of materials using BTY’s measurement software to prepare cost estimates in accordance with the CIQS Rules of Measurement, elemental format, and where required, divisional trade format.
  • Prepare estimates of probable costs of materials, labour and equipment for construction projects based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings, and specifications.
  • Attend periodic site inspections, as needed to assess the cost-to-complete and work-in-place for construction work.
  • Provide pro-active cost management advise and ensure the Clients understand the content of our reports.
  • Preparation of estimates at various stages of the design process, from conceptual design to pre-tender stage.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality checks (QA/QC) of cost management reports.
  • Completes assessments and analysis of any cost variances between estimate stages.
  • Preparation of change order review analysis and lifecycle cost estimates.
  • Prepare technical components and fees for proposals.
  • Accountable for coordinating workload and team resources with the support of the Director.
  • Mentors all junior and intermediate level team members while actively participating and leading team meetings.
  • Networks regularly promoting the business, cross-selling and building new contacts and enhancing client relationships.
What You’ll Bring
  • Having 8 to 12+ years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience mentoring and team members.
  • University Degree or equivalent to any of the following: Architectural Building Technology, Estimating, Quantity Surveying, Finance, Construction Engineering or Project Management.
  • Working towards a relevant professional qualification or professional qualification obtained: PQS and/or MRICS.
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Cost X, Planswift or relevant estimating software.
  • Advanced knowledge of specialist consultant reports and impact on development proposals.
  • Advanced knowledge of the construction industry - development, contracting, and consultant services.
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills combined with sound judgment and initiative.
  • Responsive to internal and external stakeholder requests.
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational, communication and report writing skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and ability to work to own initiatives.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail to produce quality work with good time management.
  • Eligible to work in Canada or pursuing a work permit.

The typical hiring range for this Toronto role is $80,000-$130,000 CAD per year. This represents base salary only, not total compensation, and BTY Group may offer more or less depending on a candidate's experience and qualifications. Compensation takes into account education, training, experience, location, market factors, and internal alignment. In line withOntario Pay Transparency rules, a candidate's past salary will not be considered in determining pay.
