Job summary

RBC is seeking an Associate Director in Toronto to support the Corporate Client Group’s Asset Based Lending Portfolio Management. You will help structure and manage bank debt for mid-market clients, meet annual lending revenue targets, and advise partners on optimizing lending within RBC relationships.

You will work with cross-functional RBC teams, contribute to credit submissions, and develop complex financial models and documentation to support transactions.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of banking/finance experience with relationship management, credit structuring, and writing.
  • Undergraduate degree in business, economics, accounting, or finance.
  • Strong quantitative, financial modelling, and analytical skills with ability to analyze company financial statements.
  • Strong proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and data sourcing.

What is the Opportunity?

In this role, you will be part of the Corporate Client Group - Asset Based Lending Portfolio Management team, which acts as mid-market Corporate Banking for RBC's Canadian Banking Asset Based Lending business unit. As Associate Director, you will play a key role in advancing CCG objectives through the structuring, delivery, and management of bank debt for a targeted customer base. You will also be responsible for meeting annually established targets for lending revenues and returns, and providing advice to partners on optimizing the use of lending in connection with broader RBC relationship goals.

What Will You Do?
  • Support Portfolio Managers in their management of all aspects of their assigned portfolio, including:
    • Assist with credit renewals, amendments, portfolio reviews, and credit documentation (legal documentation, CCMS, etc)
    • Coordinate all client credit needs
    • Support account management by analyzing financial and collateral reports to ensure negative trends are identified early and measures are taken to ensure RBC's exposure is adequately protected
    • Oversee and monitor loan advances and collateral reporting to ensure that clients are in compliance with covenants
    • Proactively identify issues and opportunities during the account management process to deliver advice and solutions tailored to meet client needs, paired with appropriate recommendations to Risk Management
    • Support Portfolio Managers with credit submissions, including research, analysis, financial modelling, and due diligence as part of transaction processes. This role will allow you to use and develop complex financial modelling skills, credit structuring expertise, and documentation capabilities
    • Coordinate transaction documentation and work with clients and legal counsel
    • Engage with RBC partners and functions including Group Risk Management, CCG Relationship Managers, Global Loans Administration, Private Banking, Wealth Management, Capital Markets, Treasury Management, Personal Banking, and others
What Do You Need to Succeed?
Must-Have
  • 3+ years of previous banking or finance experience with relationship management, credit structuring, and writing
  • Undergraduate degree in business, economics, accounting, or finance
  • Strong quantitative, financial modelling, and analytical skills with the ability to analyze company financial statements
  • Strong proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and the ability to source data and research
  • Capability to work through loan agreements and other legal documents with minimal supervision and high attention to detail
  • Self-starter who works independently and effectively prioritizes various transactions and demands from internal and external partners
  • Strong verbal communication and negotiation skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with clients and internal RBC partners
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment
  • Demonstrated financial and business acumen with experience conducting financial and risk analysis to assess and structure banking solutions, including building financial and borrowing availability models
Nice to Have
  • MBA and/or professional designation (e.g., CPA, CFA), or a post-graduate degree with a focus in business, accounting, economics, mathematics, or another quantitative field
  • Familiarity with RBC credit processes and loan documentation
