Assistant Vice President, Protection Pricing

The Role

The AVP, Protection, Pricing, North America will play a crucial role in executing Pacific Life Re’s protection pricing strategy in North America. Reporting directly to the VP, Protection, Pricing, North America, the incumbent will be responsible for leading key aspects of pricing development, ensuring the delivery of technically sound and commercially competitive solutions. The AVP will oversee experience analyses, pricing pipeline management, and collaboration with internal stakeholders to optimize client solutions and drive business success.

This role will be instrumental in maintaining pricing excellence, embedding superior data sources in all pricing activities, and ensuring the highest standards in risk assessment and financial modelling. Additionally, the AVP will serve as a mentor and leader within the pricing team, supporting talent development and fostering an environment of continuous learning and innovation.

Role Responsibilities
  • Pricing Execution & Oversight

    • Lead the development and execution of pricing models, ensuring technical rigor and commercial viability.

    • Oversee the timely and accurate delivery of pricing terms for both new and in-force business, maintaining high standards in experience analyses and pricing papers.

    • Ensure compliance with established pricing frameworks, risk management policies, and documentation standards.

  • Strategic Contribution & Market Insight

    • Support the VP in shaping the North American protection pricing strategy by providing analytical insights and actionable recommendations.

    • Maintain a deep understanding of client requirements, regulatory developments, and market trends to inform pricing decisions.

    • Assist in refining pricing bases and methodologies, leveraging superior data sources to enhance pricing precision.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration

    • Work closely with key functions within the Protection Line of Business, including Client Solutions, Claims & Underwriting, and R&D, to ensure pricing alignment with business goals.

    • Serve as a conduit for effective communication between Pricing and operational teams such as Finance, Corporate Actuarial, and Operations, ensuring seamless workflow integration.

    • Support the VP and broader leadership team in client engagement, contributing technical expertise in client discussions, published research, and industry presentations.

  • Leadership & Talent Development

    • Lead and mentor junior pricing professionals, fostering a strong pipeline of future talent.

    • Champion a collaborative and innovative culture within the Pricing Team, driving engagement, motivation, and professional development.

    • Assist in performance evaluations and succession planning within the Pricing function.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in life (re)insurance pricing, with a strong background in North American Protection markets.

  • Demonstrated expertise in actuarial pricing techniques, financial modelling, and risk assessment.

  • Detailed knowledge of Long-Term Care modelling and assumptions highly desirable.

  • Working knowledge of capital and accounting bases relevant to pricing decisions.

  • Strong analytical mindset with proven experience in leveraging data sources for enhanced pricing accuracy.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, capable of influencing and engaging across all levels.

  • Leadership experience, including mentoring and developing pricing professionals within a team setting.

  • Ability to navigate complex negotiations while maintaining strong client and partner relationships.

  • Track record of contributing to strategic initiatives and executing pricing frameworks aligned with broader business objectives.
