Job summary

Definity Financial Corporation is seeking an Assistant Underwriter to support the Commercial Insurance team. You will gather information on new business, process policy transactions, and maintain data across multiple systems.

You will work under supervision with underwriters to ensure accurate documentation and timely responses to brokers and customers. The ideal candidate has 2+ years in underwriting support, strong attention to detail, and bilingual English/French.

Qualifications

  • Completed high school diploma; CIP designation is an asset.
  • At least 2 years experience in underwriting support or related insurance role.
  • Bilingual, English and French; preferred.
  • Strong computer skills; experience with case management tools, portals or databases.

Responsibilities

  • Assist underwriters by gathering information on new business and processing policy transactions.
  • Enter and organize certificates of insurance, renewals, endorsemts and quotes in commercial systems.
  • Support billing inquiries and policy documentation; follow up on outstanding requirements.
  • Coordinate with regional underwriting technicians and underwriters to deliver service to brokers and customers.
  • Perform general office duties as required.

The Opportunity

As an Assistant Underwriter, you will play a key support role within the Commercial Insurance team by providing accurate and timely underwriting and policy administration services. Reporting to the Team Leader, Technical Processing, you will assist underwriters by gathering information on new business, processing policy transactions, entering and maintaining data, and ensuring insurance documentation is completed accurately.

In this role, you will manage tasks such as processing renewals, endorsements, certificates of insurance, inspections, quotations, and policy documentation. You will also order reports, follow up on outstanding requirements, handle billing and policy inquiries, and work closely with underwriting technicians and underwriters to deliver excellent service to brokers and customers.

The ideal candidate has insurance industry experience, strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work efficiently in multiple systems and databases. Experience in an underwriting support or underwriting technician role is preferred, and bilingualism in English and French is considered an asset. Candidates pursuing or willing to pursue their CIP designation will be viewed favorably.

What to Expect

  • Report to the Team Leader, Technical Processing and you will be accountable for providing superior service in a processing role.
  • You’ll gather background information on new commercial business.
  • You’ll enter and organize certificates of insurance, renewals, abeyances, letters of experience, quotes, inspections and BI&I into the commercial insurance systems.
  • You’ll enter data, coding off-system policies, endorsements, forms, and letters.
  • You’ll order required reports on policies (inspections).
  • You’ll code with accuracy into the policy administration system all renewals
  • You’ll complete specific policy tasks - ordering loss runs, billing inquiries.
  • You’ll follow up on abeyances - You’ll work closely with the regional underwriting technician as well as the regional underwriters.
  • You’ll also help out with general office and other duties as required.

What you Bring

  • Completed high school diploma and relevant work experience.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a post-secondary degree or diploma or willingness to complete a CIP designation.
  • At least 2 years experience in as Underwriting Technician or any other Insurance experience
  • Strong computer skills including previous experience in working in case management tools, portals or databases will be an asset.
  • Bilingual, written and spoken (French and English) will be considered an asset
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in an underwriting support role

Salary Range:$45,000 - $60,400

High degree of proficiency with English is required to service customers, both internal to the company and external, across Canada.

Actual salary for the role may vary depending on work location of the successful candidate and other factors including but not limited to, skills, education, experience, working conditions and the local labour market.
