Job summary

Axiom Builders in Victoria, BC, is seeking an Assistant Superintendent for a large-scale wood-frame residential project. You will support the Superintendent and project team, plan schedules, determine labour levels, and ensure the field team has the tools and resources required to stay effective.

The ideal candidate has 4–5 years of multi-family residential experience, strong coordination with design professionals, and a proven track record with site crews.

Qualifications

• 4-5 years of experience on multi-family residential projects.
• Experience from preconstruction to project completion.
• Proficiency in reviewing structural drawings and construction documents.
• Experience working with site crews; Red Seal Carpentry is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Superintendent in managing on-site work to ensure drawings and specifications are followed.
• Support contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, site instructions and change notices.
• Identify design deficiencies or schedule issues and escalate with Project Manager.
• Monitor subcontractor safety and scope compliance.
• Ensure adequate labour resources for safety, schedule and quality objectives.
• Maintain daily field reports and safety inspections.
• Ensure adherence to company safety policies.

Axiom Builders is looking in Victoria for an Assistant Superintendent to support the Superintendent and project team in directing and coordinating construction site activity on a large-scale wood-frame residential project. The successful candidate will work with construction leaders to plan and implement schedules, determine labour levels, material quantities and ensure the field team has all the tools and resources they need to be effective. As one of the leaders on site, the Assistant Superintendent will champion and promote safety initiatives in partnership with our CSO and safety team and ensure safety is top of mind for everyone on the team.

The ideal Assistant Superintendent candidate is a career-driven, results-oriented construction professional destined for field operations. You have the experience and confidence to engage professionally when interacting with the design professionals, consultants, clients and other internal and external stakeholders. Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Superintendent in managing work on site to ensure the compliance of construction drawings and specifications;
• Support with administering contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, site instructions and change notices to ensure scopes, terms and conditions are properly executed;
• Identify and advise of design deficiencies, schedule interruptions or difficulties, and other project issues, working collaboratively with Project Manager to resolve issues;
• Monitor and evaluate subcontractor performance with regards to safety and scope of work;
• Ensure sufficient labour resources are provided to achieve safety, schedule and quality objectives;
• Maintain daily field reports, safety inspections, schedule updates and other construction documentation;
• Ensure all employees, subcontractors and contractors are adhering to the company safety policies.

Skills & Experience

• Four to five (4-5) years of experience working on multi-family residential projects with a sub-trade or general contractor;
• Solid history of seeing a construction project from preconstruction to project completion;
• Proficiency in reviewing structural drawings, blueprints and construction documents;
• Strong ability and proven experience to work effectively with a site crew of various sizes;
• Red Seal Carpentry ticket or construction related education will be considered an asset;

The base salary range for this role is $85,000 to $115,000, adjusted for experience , plus a competitive bonus program. During the interview process, let’s talk to get the right fit for your experience level.
