Job summary

Chandos Construction is seeking an Assistant Superintendent to help lead day-to-day construction activities, enforce safety and quality standards, and collaborate with project managers, subcontractors, and clients to bring projects in on time and within budget. The role requires hands-on field work, strong communication, and travel across the Lower Mainland and beyond.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ experience as a Superintendent for a large general contractor on commercial builds.
  • Proven track record managing projects valued between $100K and $5M.
  • Journeyman trade certification or equivalent field experience.
  • Willingness to be hands-on in the field and to work occasional night shifts.
  • Able and willing to travel and work across the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island, and Fraser Valley.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day construction activities, enforce safety and quality standards, and partner with project managers, subcontractors, and clients to drive projects to completion.
  • Monitor project budgets and forecasting for potential gains and losses.
  • Provide leadership and direction for all site activities and ensure compliance with contracts and client needs.
  • Communicate project roles clearly to all site personnel and provide regular feedback.

Job Description

As our Assistant Superintendent, you’ll help to lead day-to-day construction activities, enforce safety and quality standards, and partner closely with project managers, subcontractors, and clients to drive projects across the finish line - on time, on budget, and with the craftsmanship our reputation depends on.

  • Continuously monitor project budget and forecasting to the individual phase code level and cost type for potential gains and losses
  • Provide leadership and direction for all project activities and tasks, ensuring project outcomes are delivered successfully and in compliance with all contracts and client needs
  • Ensure clear communication of project-specific roles and responsibilities for all site personnel. Provide regular and respectful feedback for all under your direction
  • Monitor company equipment and supplies to ensure the needed equipment is where it’s required.
  • Inspect tools and equipment and notify the Tools and Equipment Manager for service and repair as needed
  • Pitch in hands‑on when needed, including night shifts or extended hours, to overcome challenges and meet critical milestones

Compensation Transparency

Expected Salary: $102,000 – $117,300 plus bonus based on experience and education.

The base salary range for this role is listed above and may vary based on your experience. This position also includes a competitive bonus program. Throughout the interview process, we’ll discuss your background to determine the best alignment for your experience level.
