Job summary

Chandos seeks a General Foreman to support the Superintendent in field and site construction activities, including budget, schedule, performance, subtrades, and profitability on commercial projects. You will communicate with the Superintendent, Project Manager and field staff to guide Chandos teams in the field.

The role requires a Red Seal and/or technical diploma, 5+ years in commercial construction, blueprint reading ability, and willingness to travel or work out of town.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman trade certification with Red Seal and/or technical diploma.
  • Gold Seal is considered an asset.
  • 5+ years of commercial construction experience.
  • Able to read blueprints and plans; understands construction trades.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Superintendent by providing leadership for project activities.
  • Identify RFIs and manage site manpower and materials.
  • Complete documentation such as daily logs, safety records, timesheets, and invoices.
  • Monitor productivity and adjust to maximize gains and minimize losses.
  • Manage subcontractor relationships to meet schedule and scope.
  • Support landfill diversion and sustainable site practices.

Job Description

TheGeneral Foremanaids the Superintendent in managing all field and site-specific construction activities, including budget, schedule, performance, subtrades, and profitability of commercial construction projects. This person must be able to communicate effectively with the Superintendent, Project Manager and other field staff. The General Foreman is responsible for helping to provide direction and lead Chandos staff in the field.

  • Assist the Superintendent in providing leadership and direction for all project activities and tasks, ensuring project outcomes are delivered successfully and in compliance with all contracts and client needs
  • Assist the Superintendent to identify and generate requests for information
  • Assist the Superintendent in planning, organizing and managing all site construction manpower and materials, including site layout and setup
  • Assist the Superintendent with completion of required documentation, including: superintendent’s daily log, safety documentation, timesheets, invoices, labour quantities, packing slips, purchase orders, and site photos
  • Assist the Superintendent to monitor productivities throughout the project life cycle for potential opportunities and losses. Make corrections to maximize gains and mitigate against losses
  • Manage subcontractor relationships within assigned projects to maintain timelines and scope of work, and meet contact obligations
  • Maximize landfill waste diversion on all projects, and manage construction sites in a sustainable fashion, continuously minimizing Chandos’ impact on the environment
Qualifications
  • Journeyman trade certification with Red Seal and/or Technical diploma
  • Gold Seal is considered an asset
  • Leadership training and safety certificates are recommended.
  • Five or more years of commercial construction experience.
  • Able to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, field drawings, and plans.
  • An understanding of all construction trades and techniques.
  • Knowledge of local, provincial and federal workplace regulations, ordinances, legislation and building codes.
  • Travel to site and off-site locations is required.
  • May be required to work out of town.
  • Will be working both indoors and outdoors.
  • Will be exposed to potential hazards and conditions of the construction site.
  • As this is a supervisory role, hours of work, and days of work may vary from week to week based upon the business needs

Nice to Have

  • Experience with a large general contractor
  • Concrete and formwork experience
  • Valid driver’s licence and clean abstract
  • Travel required, able and willing to work out of town (occasionally inter-provincial)
  • Certifications such as SiteReadyBC, Fall Protection, Elevating Work Platforms, or other site‑related tickets
