Job summary

Chandos is seeking a General Foreman to support the Superintendent in directing all field activities on commercial construction projects. You will help manage budget, schedule, subcontractors, and site profitability while ensuring compliance with contracts and client needs.

The role requires a journeyman trade certification and experience in supervision, with willingness to travel and work indoors/outdoors across sites. Competitive wages and strong benefits are offered.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Superintendent in leading project activities and ensuring contracts are met.
  • Coordinate site manpower and materials, including layout and setup.
  • Maintain documentation: daily logs, safety records, invoices, and photos.
  • Monitor productivity and manage changes to maximize gains and reduce losses.
  • Manage subcontractors to meet timelines and scope of work.
  • Promote waste diversion and sustainable site practices.

Job Description

TheGeneral Foremanaids the Superintendent in managing all field and site-specific construction activities, including budget, schedule, performance, subtrades, and profitability of commercial construction projects. This person must be able to communicate effectively with the Superintendent, Project Manager and other field staff. The General Foreman is responsible for helping to provide direction and lead Chandos staff in the field.

  • Assist the Superintendent in providing leadership and direction for all project activities and tasks, ensuring project outcomes are delivered successfully and in compliance with all contracts and client needs
  • Assist the Superintendent to identify and generate requests for information
  • Assist the Superintendent in planning, organizing and managing all site construction manpower and materials, including site layout and setup
  • Assist the Superintendent with completion of required documentation, including: superintendent’s daily log, safety documentation, timesheets, invoices, labour quantities, packing slips, purchase orders, and site photos
  • Assist the Superintendent to monitor productivities throughout the project life cycle for potential opportunities and losses. Make corrections to maximize gains and mitigate against losses
  • Manage subcontractor relationships within assigned projects to maintain timelines and scope of work, and meet contact obligations
  • Maximize landfill waste diversion on all projects, and manage construction sites in a sustainable fashion, continuously minimizing Chandos’ impact on the environment
Qualifications
  • Journeyman trade certification with Red Seal and/or Technical diploma
  • Gold Seal is considered an asset
  • Leadership training and safety certificates are recommended.
  • Five or more years of commercial construction experience.
  • Able to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, field drawings, and plans.
  • An understanding of all construction trades and techniques.
  • Knowledge of local, provincial and federal workplace regulations, ordinances, legislation and building codes.
  • Travel to site and off-site locations is required.
  • May be required to work out of town.
  • Will be working both indoors and outdoors.
  • Will be exposed to potential hazards and conditions of the construction site.
  • As this is a supervisory role, hours of work, and days of work may vary from week to week based upon the business needs

Nice to Have

  • Experience with a large general contractor
  • Concrete and formwork experience
  • Valid driver’s licence and clean abstract
  • Travel required, able and willing to work out of town (occasionally inter-provincial)
  • Certifications such as SiteReadyBC, Fall Protection, Elevating Work Platforms, or other site‑related tickets

Additional Requirements

As part of the recruitment process, selected candidates may be required to complete a pre‑employment physical assessment to confirm ability to perform the essential functions of the role safely.
