The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Project Manager to deliver and manage large/complex projects across a portfolio for key clients in Canada and the US. The successful candidate will need to ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards, driving the programme of work to meet client needs. You will also identify areas for improvement and ensure Ricardo’s processes and governance are adhered to.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of large value projects, implementing and promoting Project Management principles such as change control, risk, financial, and documentation management.
  • Plan and manage project implementation within the agreed requirements, budget, timelines, and customer satisfaction.
  • Manage projects, team members, and suppliers, ensuring staff involvement and safe working conditions.
  • Ensure delivery of contracted outputs to the required quality, evaluate project and supplier performance, and identify lessons for future improvement.
  • Understand customer goals and how Ricardo can contribute to achieving them, both within and beyond current project activities.
  • Manage projects in accordance with Ricardo's processes and governance.
  • Promote and develop project management practices within Ricardo, utilizing best practices, tools, and techniques for effective and consistent work.

Key Competencies and Experience

  • Experience working in a business/client services environment.
  • Flexible, results-oriented approach to meet varying client and business demands.
  • Strong organizational skills to handle multiple tasks and tight deadlines.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills, with strong communication and diplomacy abilities for negotiation and influence.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, and Ricardo Rail’s project management software tools.
  • Versatile and adaptable, able to operate under pressure to meet deadlines and ensure project success.

Progression Criteria – Project Manager

  • Implement and promote Project Management principles such as resource planning.
  • Conduct project cost analysis.
  • Support the growth of the project organization, recruit necessary staff and resources, and make agreements with internal and external suppliers as needed.
  • Monitor project progress, make adjustments, and negotiate changes with the customer.
  • Establish strong, effective customer relationships and ensure high levels of customer service throughout the project.
