We are experiencing exponential growth in our presence in Canada. In 1998, it was awarded for the construction, operation, and maintenance project for the Fredericton-Moncton Highway. In 2011, it was awarded a section of the Toronto-York Spadina Subway extension, the first modern subway infrastructure project in the city. This project was completed in 2018.

FCC Construcción Canadá has won a new contract to deliver the Pape Tunnel and Underground Stations section of the Ontario Line, together with the GO Rail Expansion-On Corridor Project and the Scarborough Subway Extension Stations, Rail and Systems Project reinforces FCC Construcción’s presence in the Canadian market.

We are looking for an experienced Assistant Project Manager to join our FCC Canada team assigned to the Pape Tunnel and Underground Stations Project.

This position is located in Toronto, ON.

Position Summary

Reports to : Construction Manager

The Assistant Project Manager supports the Construction Manager in overseeing on-site operations, coordinating subcontractors and vendors, ensuring health and safety compliance, and assisting in project scheduling and reporting. This role is crucial for maintaining productivity, quality, and timely completion of the project.

The Assistant Project Manager Key Responsibilities Are

• Collaborate closely with the Construction Manager to ensure seamless operations and alignment with project goals and objectives.
• Oversee project execution, ensuring precision, efficiency, and adherence to high-quality standards in all layout tasks.
• Lead and facilitate meetings by preparing comprehensive agendas, delivering engaging presentations, and documenting minutes to ensure all stakeholders are informed and aligned.
• Play a key role in coordinating with team members to create and deliver monthly reports for clients and stakeholders, ensuring timely and transparent communication of project progress.
• Provide comprehensive technical guidance by interpreting plans, specifications, and detail sheets, enabling contractors to execute engineering plans effectively.
• Develop and maintain 3-week look-ahead schedules to keep projects on track and proactively identify potential challenges.
• Generate accurate labor cost reports through meticulous tracking of quantities and expenditures to manage project budgets effectively.
• Monitor daily site activities and ensure compliance with scope and specifications
• Track progress against project timelines and identify potential delays
• Coordinate with procurement and planning teams to ensure timely availability of materials
• Develop the scope of work of procurement processes, placing orders for materials, tools, and equipment to ensure timely delivery that supports project timelines.
• Coordinate third-party inspections to verify compliance with regulatory standards and project requirements.
• Maintain detailed daily reports documenting work progress and any relevant information to track project status.
• Manage the Request for Information (RFI) process, ensuring timely resolution of queries and clarifications to facilitate smooth project execution.
• Ensure all construction activities adhere to engineering standards, codes, and specifications, upholding the integrity of the project design.
• Actively participate in health and safety programs to promote a secure working environment for all project personnel.
• Contribute to quality assurance initiatives by engaging in quality programs and fostering a culture of excellence within the team.
• Provide on-site support during construction phases, conducting site visits, and addressing technical issues as they arise.
• Prepare and manage comprehensive contract documents and drawings to effectively guide construction activities.

Education And Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience) is an asset
• 2-4 years pf experience in similar role on construction sites (commercial, infrastructure and rail)
• Familiarity with project management software (e.g. MS Project, Primavera, Procore)
• Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and health & safety standards
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
• Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail
• Foster strong working relationships with all stakeholders to ensure project alignment

• Experience with Utilities and Traffic is an asset
