Job summary

Compass Group Canada is seeking an Assistant Manager, Environmental Services to support delivery of high‑quality environmental and support services in a fast‑paced acute care hospital setting. You will supervise staff, promote infection prevention standards, and ensure compliance with policies, collective agreements, and applicable legislation.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Environmental Services, Facilities Management, Healthcare Administration, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of Environmental Services experience in healthcare
  • Supervisory experience in a unionized environment preferred
  • Strong understanding of infection prevention and healthcare cleaning standards
  • Knowledge of collective agreements and labour relations practices
  • Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication abilities

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day Environmental Services operations across patient care units and clinical and non-clinical areas
  • Ensure cleaning and disinfection practices meet acute care standards and IPAC requirements
  • Assist with staffing coordination, scheduling, workload distribution, and coverage
  • Participate in emergency response, outbreak management, and surge capacity planning
  • Provide direct supervision, coaching, and guidance to unionized EVS staff per the collective agreement
  • Support performance, attendance, and progressive discipline processes with Human Resources
  • Conduct audits and inspections to ensure quality, safety, and compliance with hospital standards
  • Assist with onboarding, orientation, and training of new staff
  • Support supply and equipment management, inventory control, and reporting
  • Collaborate with IPAC, Occupational Health & Safety, and interdisciplinary teams

Job description

The salary range for this position is $60,000 to $65,000. Final compensation will be determined based on relevant skills, experience, qualifications, and internal equity. In addition to base salary, eligible employees may be entitled to other elements of total compensation, which may include group benefits, employer RRSP contributions, and discretionary bonus or incentive programs, where applicable to the role. We are committed to offering competitive compensation and comply with all applicable pay transparency legislation.
