Job summary

Family Services of Greater Vancouver is seeking an Assistant Manager for the Directions Youth Services Centre in Vancouver. You will supervise program staff and lead case management efforts to engage youth with tailored service plans.

You will shape day-to-day operations, ensure informed and compassionate service delivery, and actively support diversity and inclusion across the program and organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, youth care, or related field.
• Five (5) years’ experience working with homeless and/or at-risk youth, plus three (3) years managing and leading team members.
• Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Directions Youth Services Centre program staff, including selection, performance management, discipline and dismissal.
• Oversee case management: plans, develops, implements, and oversees client engagement strategies and individual service plans for youth.
• Plan, develop, implement, and oversee the ongoing day-to-day operation of the program with program management support.
• Support the Agency’s diversity and inclusion goals and foster a collaborative work environment.

About Our Opportunity

Working within the mission, vision, values and person-centred philosophy of the Agency, the Assistant Manager supervises Directions Youth Services Centre program staff, including selection, performance management, discipline and dismissal. The role supervises case management: plans, develops, implements, and oversees client engagement strategies and the creation of individual service plans for youth. With the support of the program management, the Assistant Manager plans, develops, implements, and oversees the ongoing day-to-day operation of the program. It actively supports the Agency’s awareness and goals around diversity and inclusion.

Work Hours: 37.5 per week (Full-time); Tuesday-Saturday, flexible schedule: generally 10am-6pm

Salary: MGP2 Step 1 $38.28 - $42.43 per hour

What do you need to succeed?

Education, Training, Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, youth care, or related field
• Five (5) years’ experience working with homeless and/or at-risk youth, plus three (3) years managing and leading team members
• Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience

Role Qualifications and Skills include, but are not limited to

• Awareness of community services, resources and systems and ability to work with these; competence in working with a multi-cultural community
• A committed ability to keep informed about evolving trends and practices, share knowledge, and support staffto integrate innovation into the delivery of quality care/services
• Strong ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop, manage and evaluate clinical programs considering client needs, service delivery interrelationships, and service potential within a complex environment
• Ability to understand available resources for program and keep quality in the forefront of all resource utilization decisions; providing feedback and detailed analysis on budget variances, and making recommendations for corrective action
• Ability to develop and maintain a strong and supportive team environment
• Thorough knowledge of adolescent development, at-risk youth and the child welfare system
• Thorough knowledge of harm reduction and trauma-informed care practices
• Solid working knowledge of addictions and mental health
• Collaborative case management and strong advocacy skills

Additional Requirements

• Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check
• Current First Aid, Food Safe Level 1, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certificates are an asset

Directions Youth Services is a division of Family Services of Greater Vancouver (FSGV), which for more than 90 years has provided a variety of essential resources for children, families, and individuals in the Greater Vancouver community.
