Job summary

Directions Youth Services, a division of Family Services of Greater Vancouver, invites applications for Dusk to Dawn- Senior Youth Worker (competition #19-26). This full-time, 35-hour-per-week role serves homeless and street-involved youth, taking a leadership role in internal case management and maintaining the safety of the centre.

You will mentor Youth Support Workers and practicum students, provide guidance and referrals, document notes in the online database, and support youth toward

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Social Work or related field.
• Experience: 1 year working with at-risk/homeless youth or similar.
• Certifications: Criminal Record Check and First Aid certification (required or preferred).

Responsibilities

• Intake and assessment of new clients’ access and referrals.
• Identify individual youth needs and provide support, crisis intervention, harm reduction, and advocacy.
• Initiate involvement with designated authorities to support Integrated Case Management strategies.
• Maintain notes, statistics and incident reports in the online database.
• Ensure adherence to program policies, procedures and safety standards.

About Our Opportunity

This is a full-time, 35hrs per week position that serves homeless, at risk, street-involved, and street-entrenched youth, and takes a leadership role in internal case management and maintaining the safety of the resource. This position provides guidance, information and referral to youth accessing the centre, promoting safety and, where possible, assisting in their transition from the street to healthier, alternative lifestyles. This position takes on a mentoring role with Youth Support Workers, practicum students, and others in the Dawn to Dusk program. This position reports to the Supervisor of Dawn to Dusk.

What do you need to succeed?

Education, Training, Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Social Work or other relevant education
• One (1) year experience working at risk and/or homeless youth in areas such as child protection, life skill development, community support and /or community outreach

Role Qualifications and Skills include, but are not limited to

• Intake and assessment of new clients’ access, pre-screening, and determining if they are an appropriate fit for the program, and well as making referrals when required.
• Identify individual needs for youth accessing the centre and provide support, encouragement, collaboration and education to clients in matters related to crisis intervention, harm reduction, conflict resolution, community resources, alcohol and drug information, and advocacy to clients and referral calls utilizing youth social work best practice.
• Initiate MCFD involvement where appropriate to develop and support Integrated Case Management strategies.
• Maintain appropriate notes, statistics, logs and critical incident reports in a professional and thorough manner in the online database when applicable.
• Ensure adherence to all program and agency policies, procedures, safety standards, and accreditation standards including the Centre’s Facility Management Plan.

Additional Requirements

• Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check
• Current First Aid Certificate
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training and Food Safe are an asset
