Job summary

Cogir Senior Living seeks an Assistant Cook to support the Cook in preparing and delivering meals for residents, guests and staff across our retirement residences. The role emphasizes proper food handling, adherence to menus, and accurate portioning to meet dietary needs.

The position requires a Food Handler's Certificate and experience with large-scale meal production, preferably in healthcare or retirement settings. A Red Seal is preferred.

Qualifications

• Must possess a Food Handler's Certificate.
• Red Seal Certificate preferred.
• Must have experience in large quantity food preparation, preferably in a healthcare or retirement setting.
• Must be knowledgeable of the Provincial Food Premises Regulation and Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating.
• Must have knowledge of and experience with special and therapeutic diets.
• Must have physical ability to lift and transfer heavy, hot items and stand for majority of shift.
• Proficiency in a second language is considered an asset.
• Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and/or be responsible for the preparation/delivery of all foods for residents, guests and employees.
• Review menus and production sheets before preparing meals and serve them properly and attractively.
• Ensure use of proper food handling techniques.
• Complete daily temperature audits for fridge, freezers and storerooms and record findings.
• Prepare and serve foods for therapeutic/specialty diets according to planned menus.
• Assist in serving meals following resident's diet and preferences.
• Follow daily production charts and standardized recipes within budget.
• Assist in receiving and storing incoming food and supplies.
• Participate in special occasion and theme meal days.
• Attend staff meetings and training sessions.
• Respect Resident Rights & Responsibilities and promote them.
• Participate in Quality Improvement Program.
• Follow health and safety legislation and safe job procedures.
• Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults.
